I have been out of circulation for a while, heart surgery and then three kidney stone operations.  In that time my P07 is no longer the latest and greatest version.  I have been checking out the updated version.  Actually my son went to the range with me for the first time and I brought along several handguns for him to get a sense.  A Ruger Security six, a P07, Rami and the Tactical Sport.  He liked the P07, but wisely wants to go several more times before actually shopping.  He does not think he will be carrying, but enjoys target shooting.  Thoughts?

Reprofiled trigger.

Frame is dehorned.

Interchangeable backstraps.

Squared off hammer opposed to the round earlier style.

All metal sights VS's the previous plastic ones.

Magazine capacity went down to 15 rounds from 16. (9mm)

Oftentimes they will comes with the regular magazine baseplates and +2 baseplates.

Edit....were the original guide rods plastic? For some reason I seem to think they were. Regardless they are metal now.

What he said.....

For me, the easiest way to tell is to see if it has the interchangeable backstraps.

Note: I just noticed that CZ dropped the "75" from the Gen 2 (from CZ 75 P-07 to CZ P-07). Never noticed this before........

Good to see you back on the forum and wishing you the best of health. Some things in life are more important than latest and greatest but if you can move up to the newest model, why not? [emoji4] What everyone else has posted covers the obvious external differences.

There is a pretty good video on YouTube that compares the differences between the Gen 1 (Old) and Gen 2 (New):

And to add to the other replies ^, check the year stamp on the right side of the slide (before serial #).

Something I hadn't noticed in the video before: The polymer frame on the gen2 completely covers the steel hammer frame, looking very smooth in that area. The gen1 hammer frame looks like a poor fit to the polymer frame.
My gen2 has the lanyard loop. I like it.
