Rami BD vs PCR for first carry gun
« on: July 05, 2016, 08:17:04 PM »
Hey everyone,

So I've decided to stick with the CZ platform for my carry gun. My HD/Range gun is the SP-01 Tactical and I love it so much that I see no reason to stray away from CZ.

My decision now is the Rami BD or the PCR.

I have the Ultra-Lite Self Defense CGW Kit in my SP-01 and it is spectacular. I'm not sure if I'd want it in my P-01 or Rami for carry but it turned my SP-01 into my dream gun. I don't even plan on finishing the rest of the Defensive Carry Package any time soon because it is shooting so smooth right now.

A few questions:

I held both the Rami and PCR in the shop today. The PCR definitely reminded me more of my SP-01 in terms of ergonomics. Regarding the grip, I love the stock grips on the PCR and SP-01, however, they are a bit thick. For carry would you suggest switching out the grips for something thinner?

Regarding Night Sights... I love the stock NS on my SP-01 Tactical. Can I get those same sights on a PCR? I prefer the larger size of the 3 dots on my SP-01, though I can work with the smaller ones for carry if I can get them in night sights.

Overall I really like both of them. If the Rami is significantly easier to conceal I'll probably get the Rami. But aside from a half inch in the grip height I really don't see it being that much smaller than the PCR.

Thanks everyone.

I have had both and I prefer the Rami. You cannot go wrong with either so go with your gut and get that one.

Hi bm303,

The RAMI's 3" barrel makes it the most concealable, and its CZ-lightest status makes it the most carryable.  Its (best in class) 15 round capacity and full-fingered forward-hooking grip give it CZ-legendary ergonomics; the BD model offers freedom from the risk of a forgotten, under pressure, safety while providing a nice strong thumb land as well.

All this plus Tritium TruDot night sights? No contest, imho.  I carry 12:00 IWB with a modified Crossbreed SuperTuck that hides all but the hammer and butt of the extended grip below the belt-top level while being trimmed to enable fully comfortable seating (& squatting & bending over) with total tucked-shirt (or T-shirt) concealment.

CGW's Short Reset Kit, OEM "Thick" Trigger, Reduced Power Trigger Return Spring, and Floating Trigger Pin, along with polishing of the hammer's SA tooth face (if needed) and a tiny speck of Anti-Sieze compound at the sear-SA tooth interface make for a dreamy slick trigger.  Raising the spring shoulder on the main spring strut ~1.5mm will further lower trigger pulls safely, in that the Short Reset Kit's blue Main Spring otherwise goes coilbound at full cock (or did on my RAMI, at least).  My trigger (tip) pull values are SA: 2.4 lb.; DA: 4.7 lb.

If it's the ergonomics of the SP-01 you like, you might try out the P-01 instead of the PCR.  The SP-01 was developed after and from the P-01 and shares the same geometry around the grip.  I haven't had the pleasure of handling either.

Barrel length has little to nothing to do with concealment unless you carry OWB. Grip length and width are more important. As for weight, while the Rami is small it isn't that much lighter than the PCR, loaded only 3 oz lighter with the 14 round mag a bit more with the 10 round mag. I have both the Rami and PCR and much prefer to carry the PCR.

I do not have a pcr but I do have a duo-tone compact which is the same size as the pcr but heavier and I have a rami so I hope that is close enough for this. I am not a big person so I find the compact/pcr hard to conceal without it printing. I must admit that I love the rami and can't find anything bad to say about it but I know others say it is a bit bulky and heavy since its not polymer but I do not find that to be a problem and with a slightly loose t-shirt it conceals beautifully and to have a gun that carries 10-14 rounds you will have a hard time finding one lighter. I will say in the compacts defense that when I am in the woods or at an open range it is slightly easier to hit the targets at 25 yards or more but with proper practice CZ accuracy is great on the rami also. If I could have only one for a carry gun tho it would be my rami hands down

Have a PCR and a relatively new to me RAMI.  RAMI conceals a 'little' better, but far prefer the PCR for CC.  I am still trying to miss less with the RAMI; PCR is spot on.

I also have a SP-01 and a P-01.  PCR is my preferred carry of all.

Lots of rocks and stones, and pretty good with a slingshot!

Re your comment:"Barrel length has little to nothing to do with concealment unless you carry OWB."

If you carry front & center IWB as I've come to do (zero chance of being snatched, virtually zero detectability, best comfort) the 3" barrel is key to the ability to carry very low, with only thumb & little finger accessibility above the belt. This is forum cross-pollination, but see:
