Brno ZG47 serial number
« on: September 27, 2016, 01:34:10 PM »
Greetings, and a first post from a new(ish) forum member.

I recently acquired a Brno ZG47 in 7x64, dated 3/59, with a serial number in the 13xxx range. It has the plain stock and a 55cm barrel. I noticed today that the bolt handle is also stamped with a serial number... but it differs by 70 numbers from the serial on the barrel. I am wondering if the bolt should actually be numbered to the rifle, or not. Anybody have any ideas? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello badform

Yes, I'm pretty sure the numbers should match. I don't own a ZG47 but I do have a couple of Model 21's and a couple of ZKK rifles and they all have matching numbers......since the ZG's were produced after the M21's and prior to the ZKK's I reckon they would have had the same numbering system.

Cheers mate.

Many thanks for your input! I had wondered whether I had asked a particularly stupid question...
But then I suppose that it was a bit stupid, standard practice being, as we all know, to number the bolt to the rifle. I was just curious in this case, given that there is discrepancy of only 70 numbers. A very well informed forum member kindly drew my attention to the fact that there could be any amount of reasons for this.  I guess we shall never know.
Cheers!
