Newbie... with Questions (SAR B6P full-size)
« on: October 20, 2016, 07:29:33 PM »
Hi Gents,
I am a little new here. 25 or 30 years ago, I had an original Witness (TZ75). Sorriest day of my life is the day I let it get away from me. Anyways, I couldn't afford a new Witness, but I wanted a new full sized 9mm. I had been thinking about the B6P since I first saw it a couple of years ago. I finally broke down and bought one. My questions are these..... I would like to put a target sight on it. Will a CZ sight fit the dovetail in the SAR B6P? I am also curious about a conversion to .40S&W. Has anyone done that with the B6P? BTW, my brother has a Canik55 Stingray, and he is also curious about .40S&W. Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the Forum!  :)

I also have a SAR B6P and like it quite alot.  :)  You can read my review of it here: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=74751.msg533657#msg533657

As for converting any 9mm handgun to .40 S&W, don't bother.  The Slide Boltfaces are cut to accept the smaller 9x19mm Luger Cartridge base and will not seat a .40 S&W Cartridge.
The extensive machining and parts cost involved in any such conversion will cost more than just buying a .40 S&W handgun.

It's possible that a witness .40 conversion would work on it.  I have one.  The next time I go to the range I'll try putting it on the SAR b6P and see if it works.  I know the small frame witness 22 conversion kit works on my SAR b6p, so the .40 may as well.

Please let me know, you have 2 very interested parties awaiting your report. I was of the opinion it would work, but I really wanted to find someone who had tried it. Although, on second thought it might be almost as cheap just to buy another B6P in .40 S&W

True, given that Conversion Kits retail in the $400 price range.  Unfortunately for you, I've not seen any listings for the B6P chambered in .40 S&W, only in 9mm.
Given that demand for Pistols chambered in .40 S&W is in decline, a .40 S&W chambered B6P is not likely to ever be available.

Consider the IMI Baby Eagle series Pistols or a used small frame Witness in .40 S&W, if you can find any.

Ditto. On a related note I've been hoping that someone who has the RIA MAPP1 TCM 9r and some of the SAR series of pistols will test the interchangeability, especially the MAPP1 top end on the B6P compact.  8)

Oh well, it was a thought.... I am so out of it, I didn't know that .40S&W was in decline, but I guess it makes sense, with the smaller, hotter calibers starting to take off. Wonder if the Tokarev cartridge will make a comeback..... Regardless of what I have read, I still believe 9mm is an adequate caliber. Truth told, every caliber has a few good reasons for not choosing it, but most of them have a lot more reasons TOO choose them.
