Trigger work and HBI springs
« on: November 02, 2016, 06:07:10 PM »
So my HBI springs arrived. I was on the waitlist here for the HBI drill bit.  But I couldn't wait, so I went thru 3-4 regular drill bits to drill that weld off. Wow, that sucker is surprisingly tough, but I finally got it off.

Once I had the trigger parts out and disassembled, I figured I might as well smooth out and polish the parts that rub each other.

As you can see, I didn't fully polish the entire surface of each part, just the areas that looked critical. I hit it up with a little bit of 800 grit, then to 1200 grit and then a little Flitz on the dremel. Re-assembled with a little grease and WOW!

It was all worth the small effort. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but it feels way less than half the stock weight, and all the grittiness is gone. I knew it would be lighter and smoother, but I was still happily surprised at how much.

If you've already got things apart to install the HBI springs, take another 15 minutes to polish up the parts. It's exponentially better!

The hammer face has some pretty nasty horizontal gauges on it. I tried to smooth that out a bit, but they were pretty deep.

Anyone know if that's just the typical CZ-quality machining or is my bolt assembly slamming back so hard and doing that?

Does yours look like that too?

bleep. I should have done this when I had it apart.....it was pretty stressful getting it back together....not sure I really want to tear it apart again....getting that spring leg in the groove/channel to sit right was a PIA!

Thanks! I had just done the trigger/Cajunized my SP-01 last month, so I already had the materials and mindset ready.

@rogueshot - I agree, that part was tricky. I think you really need a 3rd hand or better yet, a vise to hold the trigger housing so you can have both hands free to push down on the spring leg with one hand and slide in the FPB lifter with the other hand. The best and easiest way I've seen it done is right here at 21:44. Thankfully the rest of the reassembly is pretty straightforward.

Nice polishing job. I likely should have done that, maybe later...... Already quite impressed with the result after changing out the disconnector, springs, and trigger.....thanks to CZCustom, HBI, Shooters Element for the excellent aftermarket improvements!!

YMMV

What benefits does the disconnector provide? Shorter reset?

I picked up a 922lr kit with a replacement disconnector. There have been reports of the enclosed disconnectors prematurely breaking. I figured since I was replacing several of the other parts, I would install a better 922lr-compliant disconnector.
