Tanfoglio help
« on: May 21, 2018, 10:25:46 PM »
Hi all,

I had originally posted this on Canadian Gun Nutz and it was suggested that I post it here.

I'm considering buying this Tanfoglio P40L and was hoping that I could get some help with an evaluation. As far as I can tell it is a small frame pistol.

PICTURES: https://drive.google.com/folderview?...In0LvdGnVG3jCm

The only markings I can find are serial number (an M block number), caliber, Tanfoglio branding and the slide is marked "P40L". I was unable to find any information on a P40L Tanfoglio.

It takes CZ 75b mags and has a 4.75" long barrel (measured from rear of chamber to muzzle). Trigger pull is about 4.75 lbs SA and around 9lbs DA. I would likely be putting an SAO trigger in it if I buy it. Overall it appears to be in very good condition, with only minor holster and slide wear.

Any info and possible value would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know your country if you are posting a value, as that will affect how it translates for Canada. Also if anyone had a Canadian source for 9mm barrels I'd appreciate that info.

Thanks,

Tom

Picture Link does not work and I've found no reference for such a model.  All  I get is for the Grand Power P40L.

If you could post a pic, that would be much more helpful.

Generally, a good used Tanfoglio Pistol runs in the $300 to $400 USA Dollar Price Range down here. Not sure what the Market is like up in Canada.

Thanks!

Here is the picture link again, hopefully it works this time: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1q5Sk6l1l8Wmaa4FWMnIn0LvdGnVG3jCm

I've found 2 references to this pistol online. One guy's shooting review in which he mentions paying $1100 CAD (in 2006), and a post saying that were going on clearance for $725 CAD (in 2011).

Thanks again,

Tom

I would suggest the Tanfo Witness Pro p instead.  $600 brand new (in the USA) and it already comes with the single action trigger from the factory.... plus the flared mag well.  Polymer large frame pistol so the grip is big enough to fill the hand.  Mine has a 3.5 pound trigger and shoots so accurate.  I replaced the stock front sight with a Dawson Precision fiber optic. but stock otherwise. One of my favorites.

You are most Welcome!  :)

I like that!!!  8)  Alot!!!  :)  The only thing I would not care for is the Adjustable Rear Sight, but I've put up with them when I've had to.
I would put Manufacture date around 2004 or earlier, by the profile of the Slide.

The closest thing we have here in the USA to that would be the EAA Witness Elite Stock I, which MSRP's at $1,100 USAD new. http://eaacorp.com/guns/handguns/witness-elite-stock-i-99
Very rarely will you see one used for sale, but I would expect to see one used in the $600 to $700 USAD range.
