Best gun case?
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:27:36 PM »
Hello!! I recently bought my first pistol and I want to get a bigger case than the one the gun came in so I can leave my flashlight, and have room for future upgrades (like a threaded barrel) and more mags. I want a case that I can throw and my truck and head to the range with, and I want to also be able to store the pistol in it at my home. I am a big time fan of pelican cases and I would love something like that, but I hate their new "pick-n-pluck" foam. I also only have just one pistol, a CZ-75 SP-01. What do you guys and gals use to store/travel with your pistols?

I have a 4 pistol range bag. I like having one bag that holds everything I need for a range trip. As I've become less sensible about the hobby, I've added bags for rifle stuff, chronograph/spotting scope, and extra safety stuff for guests. All of my oem boxes go in totes on a shelf.

I just got a knock at off from Sams that does 2 pistols (Pelican 1450 equivalent) for $19.95. Really nicer than I expected. Pelicans are rated 7 on an international scale (30 min immersion at 1-3 meters) amd these are 5 (direct spray from pressure hose without leaks).

I have a single pistol range bag that goes to my truck and back daily. I think it is a $20 "Tactical" brand from Academy. My friend has the $30 double and it is cool too.

I use a generously sized two pistol bag on range day. The larger bag will carry 3 pistols and a double handful of mags. I am also comfortable carrying just one pistol in it or just mags only. The mags stay in it daily. I think it is a Draco or Drago. I got it at a gun shop for $20.

How well does that foam like that hold up over time?

Very well.  If you want it sealed or stiffer you can always spray it with PlastiDip.

I was mostly asking about the best way to store a full size pistol.
