DA pull on the PCR a little tough on the wife's finger
« on: January 06, 2017, 11:21:47 AM »
Yeah, she's a little thing. Prefers her XD over anything else but we went to the range the other day with the PCR. First chance she's had to shoot it. Said the trigger was hurting her finger (probably placement) and she couldn't make the DA pull. What can be done to lighten it up a little? I'm sure there's tons of threads on here about it but I haven't really had the time to sort through them all. I've worked on Glocks I've owned in the past as far as changing connectors, springs and polishing parts but after reading enough post about springs flying if you're not careful, I'm about 1/2 afraid to do anything to this other than shoot and clean it which is always enjoyable for me.
Other thought is I may leave it right where it's at and have to pick up a 2nd P-10C if she likes the one I'll be getting for me once they get here. I like for her to be comfortable and capable of shooting whichever weapon I have on me at the time though.
I'll think of something witty to put here sooner or later.

You will get a variety of good suggestions. I would simply say visit the Cajun Gun Works website. They are more-or-less the experts on fine tuning CZs.

You can look into a Recurve or short reach Trigger....http://czcustom.com/cz-75-recurve-trigger-05a.html

Same Frame with oem Trigger:

CGW has a reach reduction kit that sounds like a good answer.  Moves the trigger position in DA rearwards, and lightens the pull.  I haven't done it myself but I have worked over a P-01 which has all the same internals.  It is a good challenge but there's plenty of good resources on this forum to get the job done.

A lighter main spring (hammer spring) will reduce DA trigger pull weight, and SA a bit also.

If it's simply a matter of her not being able to overcome the hammer spring in DA, a reduction in hammer spring is the only option short of going to SAO.

Yes sir it does.

The hurt could be coming from the serrations.

There are cases of "trigger slap" . You can read about it in several places. The cure is putting on a less curved trigger such as an 85c trigger. If it is the pressure of the double action pull that is hurting her, then a lighter mainspring ( within reason) will reduce that some.

Pay careful attention to the times it hurts, then read up on it.

Good luck

Thing one that I recommend is to follow the sticky threads on polishing. I didn't see major reductions in pull weight but it will feel so much better!
Just watch some videos and you'll know how to prevent springs from flying. This will be well worth your effort!

Reduce Double Action Pull Weight:
https://cajungunworks.com/product/54420-ultra-lite/
https://cajungunworks.com/product/rp-trs-reduced-power-trigger-return-spring/
https://cajungunworks.com/product/tr-pin-cgws-exclusive-floating-trigger-pin/
There's the kit that will get you big reduction in double action pull weight. Throw in that reduced power trigger return spring for an easy half pound more in DA pull. The third part is great to have for reinstalling your trigger, it's just a big convenience win.

Shorten the double action pull:
https://cajungunworks.com/product/reach-reduction-kit/
This will Shorten the distance of the double action pull if reach is a concern. It's been nice in the pistols I've put it in. In my test I did see about a half pound increase in the pull weight. This takes care of the trigger too. If you just want the trigger you can order it as a stand alone part to eliminate trigger slap.

And because you deserve it:
https://cajungunworks.com/product/production-legal-czc-competition-hammer
Or
https://cajungunworks.com/product/80002-decocker-hammer/
I can't find the CZC decocker version as a stand alone part on their site,  so you'd need to call and see if they have it in stock. Otherwise you can snag one from CZ Custom or try Cajun's Race Hammer. CZ's are just so much better with the Competition or Race hammers!

Hope this helps!

I'm not going to lie, the first day I was dry firing, I almost had a blister from the trigger.
I do have really soft hands, but now after a couple days I dont' get a blister on my trigger finger, but I do on my middle finger strong hand between finger tip and knuckle. I have a bit of  callus on my trigger finger now that I don't need to tape it any more after 2 weeks of owning my CZ.

What I use is first aid water proof tape. by nexcare  http://www.nexcare.com/3M/en_US/nexcare/products/catalog/~/Nexcare-Absolute-Waterproof-Tape?N=4326+3294631805&rt=rud

Yes sir it does.

The original trigger was uncomfortable; I replaced the stock (cerated) trigger with a CZ 85.  Made all the difference!

Two things. First, the serrated trigger on the PCR will rub your finger raw. It happened to me the first session.

Second, the DA on a stock CZ is too heavy IMO. The 15# or 13# hammer spring with the Ultra-Lite Kit (extended firing pin, firing pin spring and firing pin block spring) will make the DA around 8lbs. I highly suggest it.

I prefer the smooth black trigger on my SP-01 tactical overall. But in a self defense situation I like the serrated trigger. Anything that is going to improve my grip on the gun in a stressful situation is OK with me.

Practice with a S&W J frame. Afterwards you will be amazed how light the trigger is on the CZ.
