I have polished, to a mirror finish, both the hammer and the trigger. This degree of polishing closes the metal surface which helps in reducing the occurance of rusting. Periodic oiling is still necessary however. As was mentioned think twice about the safety due to slipperiness. I have seen videos where the detailer has polished the trigger pin. If you can detect the change in trigger pull, from unpolished to polished, the force is truly with you. It does give the pistol a "special" look and you customized it
