CZ Omega v CZ
« on: January 24, 2017, 09:28:23 AM »
It is probably here somewhere and I did not find it. I have a chance to acquire a CZ75 Omega. Is it enough better/different to make it worth while? Yes, I know, you cannot have too many pistols. I may get it regardless just because. I would like some good info based on experience though. Thanks. :)

MY extremely limited personal experience:

I have an '85 and got a chance to hold but not shoot a P-07 (which has the Omega trigger) in a LGS the other day. It is slightly better than the standard CZ trigger, I'd call it 15-20% better, noticeable, but not great. The main advantage AFAIK is the DASA/SAO convertibility. That being said, if you do go ahead and buy it I'd be curious about your experience with actually shooting it.

You didn't specify which Omega so just to be sure....on the non-polymer frames, there's an older Omega 75 B with the recurve trigger and lacking the convertible capability before the 2016 full size and P-01 models were introduced. Strictly from a shooting standpoint, I felt indifferent to either mechanism although I thought the newer Omega trigger was a slightly longer reach for me.

Aftermarket parts are available for both systems but most tend to agree that the old/standard system can be tuned up smoother and crisper than the omega but if the price is right it is certainly worth while to purchase.

The trigger bar spring in the original 75 Omegas, which looks like a broken paper clip stuck into a hole in the frame, does not inspire much confidence in me. Some magazines have been known to knock that little spring out of place (it rides in a shallow groove in the bottom of the trigger). I have not had that problem with mine and I do like the longer beavertail that comes on that model.

The omega is lighter and has a rolling break. The normal standard 75 trigger has a much crisper break. I prefer the omega trigger itself. Shooting the SP01 hurts my finger after a while.

I have a 75 Compact and a P-01 Omega, both in stock form. I've been told that the original trigger has a much higher ceiling as far as trigger work goes. However, I prefer the Omega. I like the actual trigger a bit more and I have no desire to Cajunize it. The original trigger has a bite to it in DA but does have a very clean break. The Omega is good enough for me.

I have handled a few omegas and have shot a couple, myself I can't tell a lot of difference in the triggers myself.
course now my P-01, Sp-01 and 97 BD has several thousand rounds through them as well, slight modification of poundage via Cajun parts.
I am sure that I would be happy with either system actually.
I shoot the CZ and Tanfoglios a bit better, but my  Gran son shoots my 1911's a bit better, so heck who knows?
maybe the CZ/Tangs are for those with bad eyes, shaky nerves and cricks in the back/ neck?
