Perfect timing. I have been gather advice on the ammo and hand loading section and it's been great. See beginners asks veterans. Some who posted here helped me there. As I have not bought anything but am preparing my list, are these things I should view as a first round purchase or are they things I can wait on until I'm more experienced?
Thanks much

These should all be considered accessories, not necessities.  Optional upgrades.

And adding these is more of an act of "personalization", but it sure is fun to enhance your equipment to make up for individual or environmental deficiencies and quirks.

I like that new lever and handle, maybe it's time to upgrade. I've had the wooden ball slip off a few times and just forced it on harder each time it happened. No slips lately.

I bought my Classic Turret in 2008, used it for a while and reverted back to my REDDING Boss. But a year ago or so I started loading on the Classic Turret again, including rifle loads with the Auto-Index rod removed for true turret press operation. It really is an excellent press for the money and I'm not the biggest LEE fan in the world. With some minor tuning, the Safety Prime system is working excellent. The one thing I did delete was the Pro Auto-Disk powder measure. Mine leaked with fine grained spherical powders, and some, not so fine grained like W231 & ZIP.

If its something you'd like to upgrade you have 2 choices that both work: the RCBS and Hornady Case Activated powder drop systems where the expanders are interchangeable in the universal powder through expander die supplied in the the conversion kit. You'll need the specific manufacturers powder measure, the conversion kit and the expanders you need for each caliber you handload.  ;)

57k,

I actually have the hornady measure and have contemplated using it with the case activated drop but the Lee pro disk works well enough for my competition loads.  It does leak a little but not enough to replace it.

I've read that the additional weight when using the case activated system with a hornady or rcbs drop messes with the timing for the auto indexing on the Lee classic turret.  Do you have any experience with this potential issue?

Cheers,
Toby

True fact for me, that the Hornady case activated powder drop did mess with my timing. I had to remove the auto indexing. I was loading 45acp.
I now use my classic turret for rifle only with the indexing rod removed. I will eventually go back to the Hornady for 7.62x39 tired of measuring each load unless it is for hunting rounds.
I do have 2 Hornady case activated powder drop set ups on my loadmaster for 9mm and 45acp. The lee powder drop was adequate but the Hornady is much nicer for me.

I think it's all pretty cool. For me the lighting is the most interesting. But, I don't think I can give up running a finger over the primer to make sure it's set right as I remove the case. Old dog, old tricks. But I will be studying it all before I make up my mind. My 4 Hole Classic Turret is an good friend and it needs TLC sometimes but I wouldn't be without it.

Sold all the Lee Powder Measures & parts. Using the Hornady case activated on the Lee Load Master, no issues as it does not move while indexing. If you switch the case activated Hornady between calibers, get a spare lower section for each caliber & the corresponding PTX. No need to buy a complete case activated lower part. This will hold the expansion adjustments while switching calibers.

Load Master put the Classic Turret into retirement until I started loading rifle. Then bought a used (1971) RCBS RC for the rifle reloading. Installed the Hornady twist lock adapter for dies in the RC for quick & easy die changes. I have an Old Lyman 55 PM mounted stationary on the shelf if I need to throw individual throws. 55 was free & amazingly consistent, even with stick powders. But things change & I haven't used the Lyman 55 since I bought the RCBS Charge Master for my rifle powder measuring.
Sorry, had to remove the list of firearms due to server overload. I hope you now have a more pleasant experience on this forum.

No thank you. Want to try my CZ P-01?

The case activated charging systems are heavier, and that might be a concern. Probably wouldn't be if LEE didn't use plastic to hold the auto-index rod and why I avoid many LEE products. Cheaper is not better and this kind of points to the error of LEE's philosophy.

I have not used the RCBS system long enough to have any problems, so I can't say they won't occur, but I haven't heard many reports of failure, but with that plastic rod holder failure is likely to occur more rapidly. But, then, I'll just stock up on more of them, or maybe we should lobby LEE to not be so cheap with a mechanical parts prone to wear much faster than even aluminum would.

If you use flake powders, you may not have any problems with the Pro Auto-Disk. I don't and haven't for the past 15 years. One of the many benefits of sphericals, especially the very dense and fine grained ones like True Blue, AA#5, #7, #9 and many magnum spherical powders, is uniformity of chargeweights where flakes simply don't compare. Because after all, we are working with cavities of a given size and gravity to fill that cavity. The higher bulk density or specific gravity is, well, you probably learned that in High School physics. And a powder like True Blue, that can be used in any handgun load/cartridge, can be as much as twice the bulk density of some flake powders.

So, the leaking aspect in itself can be dealt with by sweeping the powder back into its container after loading unless you make so many rounds that the powder starts falling from the PAD. And, of course, YMMV. In my case, the one I had leaked sphericals with bulk densities like ZIP @ 780 grams/liter or .780 grams/CC to include powders like W231, Silhouette and HS-6 although it is higher in bulk density it's somewhat similar in physical size. True Blue? Forget about it, its gonna leak, so I sold mine to a guy on a reloading forum who insisted that the leakage problem wasn't an issue for him and he planned to use flake propellants.  ;)

Really cool looking add-ons.

I made a chute to drop my finished cartridges on the left side close the ram.  It dumps into a box is behind the press.  That case ejector would work with my chute!

I made my  light from a very small 5vdc flashlight.  Using only the lamp and the small reflector cone.  Mounted on the right side aimed at the case.

Power supply:  any old fashioned desk top computer has a high quality power supply that includes 5vdc +/- legs.
With four 1/4 watt resistors on small mounting plate,  5,4,3,2 and 1 vdc can be used. Higher 12 VDC legs are also available.

Kinda like "improving" the pistols.  Maybe David could add press mods to his list. ;D
