I hate it when "alloy" is used as a synonym for aluminum.

This slang is used by shooter's.
If talking to non-shooters,  then "Aluminum alloy frame and steel slide" would be better understood by those not familiar with firearm terms.  Sometimes:  "a very hard/strong aircraft aluminum alloy" may be advertised.  Etc.  Etc

Brass is an alloy,  but brass cases are shooters' terms. The ratio of component metals isn't needed for common reference.

Just an opinion.  Mine, all mine. :)

Worse than that, the average joe has no basic understanding of science.  Why else would so many people in the world believe that the temperature cycles of the sun can be legislated by man to stem global warming?  Today's climate of ignorance hearkens back to "flat earth" religious dogma where concensus "deniers" were outed as witches.
