Why Berrys?
« on: March 04, 2017, 12:38:59 AM »
Berry's 124 HBFP TP looks like $103.00 per thousand or 10.3 cents ea.

Pro shooter buddy of mine likes them and loads them in his D-1050 by the gross.

While the PD 124 JHP is 8.9 cents ea if purchased in lots of 2K.

Now I would kinda like to try some of the Berry's stuff, but I am just not sure any of the plated stuff is better in accuracy than a good JHP, with Hornady possibly being tops, or the Zero bullet (is it)?

A Hornady XTP is not plinking ammo cost, and the HAP is not really practical at retail prices either.

I know a lot on here do use the PD bullets, as well as others, and some may find a bit better accuracy in others, but right now I have not developed ultimate accuracy loads in my guns, so GOOD handloads are all I am concerned with. I may use them in different types of shooting, so CHEAP is GOOD!

The BRY 124 HBRN makes a good lightly loaded cartridge for steel in my CZs and also shoots pretty well at 25 yards at 130PF. $.1 :)

I also shoot the PD 124 JHP for all around action shooting at 132-33PF. $
The ZERO 125JHP also shoots great loaded light or heavier in my pistols.  $$$
The MG 124 JHP shoots pretty good at 132 PF.  $$

I keep a few of each loaded.

Also Bullets are easy to find...Now.  That wasn't always the case.
The Zeros are downright hard to find half of any given year.

Oh,  I forgot to add,  the Berry bullets make great practice  SD loads to match those expensive Gold Dot/XTP bullet loads.

I like Berry's Bullets and still have a wholesale account with them.  Sometimes a retail customer can do a little better on them by getting them through TJConevera's.  Their prices include shipping.

Here's the link to the bullet you mentioned:  http://www.tjconevera.com/be9mm124grho.html

Hope this helps.

Hmm?  With so little price difference I'm not sure what all the fuss is about?  Try them if you want but I'm not sure anyone here can tell you how to spend your money.

Fred makes the same point I would. Berry Mfg sells at list price, while several of their distributors sell at discounted prices. If you like the bullets, but dislike the price, then look for them elsewhere.

The only thing I might add is that you have to be more careful when crimping the case mouths when using plated bullets vs. jacketed bullets.

If you can get jacketed bullets cheaper and maintain accuracy that would be the way I'd go with it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
