I had two Barskas. They are serviceable scopes. One actually stopped working. If I remember I spent the low side of $100. But, these were their Varmint scopes. The BSA I mentioned was about the same price price. The Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 BDC that mounts my Ruger was $109.
I do understand what you say. I think the Barska was a good solution. The 24x and adjustable objective makes it great for kids. If your shooting in the sunny outside or in a well lighted range, it's great.
The only real problems where poor field of view and bad light transmissions. They were only problems because I hung just after dawn in heavy woods. I don't think that is a lemon issue. I just think the scope wasn't suited for me.
