Loose rear sight... How to fix??
« on: February 15, 2017, 11:30:19 AM »
Well realized yesterday during dry fire that my rear sight had moved. I'm a complete pistol noob, I can field strip and clean no problem, even changed out my trigger pin and return spring. But I don't even know where to start on the sights. I have a shadow custom from Czc with their sights. I rather not damage anything, I'm assuming I'll have to undue the Allen key set screw (what size? Metric or imperial?). I'm assuming I'll need to drift the sight over via a sight pusher or a brass drift punch.

How do I go about 'resting' the pistol while sighting in?

If it moved on it's own (that loose??) the screw may be loose, too.  I'd try loosening the screw up a turn or two and then pushing the sight back to the middle (or where it was if not the middle) with my thumb.

Once you get it where you want it (if it moves that easy) you can degrease the threads of the screw and the threaded hole in the side with some alcohol and a q-tip and then use some Loctite to (just a little on the threads of the screw) and tighten it back down.  With Loctite it shouldn't come loose again.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Not sure how/when it came loose, as on Saturday I was practicing and actually had my fastest stage times yet (10 seconds between slowest and fastest with a botched reload). Must have happened after(was hitting majority alphas), I think I may have dropped the pistol in its case (factory Cz case).

What size is the Allen key screw? Is it metric or imperial? I have an imperial set of keys but not metric.. would rather find out now than after I've striped the head what size I need. What locktite? I have a big bottle of blue and a small one of red.

Just checked my 75B and the 2mm allen key fit perfectly. Blue locktite would be my choice but only after I was certain that the site was exactly where I wanted it to be.

You may need to wiggle the key into the hex broach. Make sure that the key has no burrs on any of the flats. You want a tight fit.

Size is 1/16th. Took the slid with me to the auto parts store. It's not metric lol

If you don't know the 'exact' position the sight was in,  I'd start with it dead centered on the slide's top ribs.

My CZC 75 Shadow came loose too,  quite a while back.  Mine was VERY loose in the dovetail,  so I shimmed it with a small piece of feeler gage that was a thousandth or so thick, tapped it back in and then Loctited that.  It's still holding fine.
