Looking For a Full Length hand guard removal video
« on: March 19, 2018, 01:00:26 PM »
Got my form 1 back today and picked up my suppressor at lunch,  the sbr paper work should be here in the next few weeks.
Hope someone can help out here, ive searched and googled with no luck on a finding a video that shows the removal of a full length hand guard of this gun. Everything ive seen has been the shorter hand guard, and shows just taking off the nut and sliding everything forward.  Im looking for a video that also how to get the fake can off of the barrel and how to slide the full hand guard off. In order to put on my threaded adapter and the suppressor and put everything back together.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Kraft

It's super easy, but you'll need some tools to do the job.

-1/2 Inch Drive
-Vise or something to secure your gun in
-Crescent wrench (for a muzzle brake if that's what you have) or something to lock into the flash can cutouts
-Patience (sounds silly but it's true)

(step 1)
Clear the gun and triple check there's nothing in the chamber.

(step 2)
Secure the gun (would suggest some soft or non-mare type jaws) in a vise above the lower part of the gun (basically where the bolt is) and take the muzzle brake or flash can off.

(step 3)
Then you'll need the carbine barrel nut wrench (I'd suggest the one from NAAH tool https://naahtoolworks.com/product/cz-scorpion-evo-carbine-barrel-nut-wrench/).
Slip carbine wrench over the barrel and lock in your 1/2 inch drive. Then lefty loosy and righty tighty and spin the nut off and the handguard should come right off the gun (Warning the sling mounts will fall off once you loosen the nut enough.

Hope that helps, as I just went through the same thing to 3 lug mine.

actually, cant I just take off the fake can, and then thread on my adapter and then thread the suppressor onto the adapter?
Do I need to take the hand guard off and take the barrel nut off? or cant I just thread the adapter and suppressor onto the end of the barrel and shoot it like that?

Sure you can. However the title and question you asked about was removing the hand guard. If all you want to do is thread the suppressor on, just take the flash can off and thread the suppressor on. Be sure you have a fixed barrel spacer on the suppressor...wouldn't want any baffle strikes on the new can.

Those are good directions on the full length hand guard removal though, because my suppressor's direct thread mount unscrewed from the suppressor down in there so now I need to remove the shroud to remove it  ;D

One word of caution if you take this route.  It's possible to over-tighten the adapter on the barrel.  Then the next time you go to remove your can, you end up unscrewing the suppressor from the adapter.  If that happens, there's no way to access the barrel nut in the future.  I did an HBI freefloat handguard and added a 3-lug on mine for that reason.

Thanks,  yeah I see what you mean now, after looking at it last night, I just assumed you can take off the threaded fake can ,and just thread on my adapter and the suppressor. Now you have me googling for this spacer. which I came up with this ? > https://www.store.silencerco.com/products/fixed-barrel-spacer?variant=221756540

I was sorta wondering if anything needed to go inside the can, per at the gun shop and reading the paperwork that came with the suppressor, it just shows to remove the cap, and the spring, and then thread on the adapter for the barrel and thread on the suppressor , which leaves this pocket inside the can where nothing is except bullet travel. But, the store, and the paperwork both state you dont need the piston adapter because thats for a pistol, not a threaded barrel, hence why i thought you could just thread on the suppressor and be good to go.  So I actually  need this spacer to sit inside the can? because it seems it will just float in there freely, possibly causing more of an issue then if its not.

Forgive my ignorance here, I haven't looked into this as much as I thought I have it turns out.. I was under the impression with emailing silencer-co and looking at a few things online to suggest its just as easy as taking off the fake can, and threading on the real can with the adapter.  Which is another issue of spending almost $800 on a can ,and not getting all the parts needed to make it work.

The 1/2 x 28 piston screws to your barrel.  The spring allows the suppressor to decouple from the barrel during recoil.  This is beneficial on tilting barrel handguns since it allows the barrel to move somewhat independently from the can.  Since the Evo barrel doesn't move when firing, it's unnecessary to use the spring.  The fixed spacer replaces the spring and keeps the piston fixed in place.  The benefit of this is that the piston has teeth that prevent rotation inside the can.  So you can unscrew the suppressor without fear of leaving the mount behind on the barrel.  You could just screw it on with the spring in place, but there's a chance the can could move under recoil, misalign and cause a baffle strike.  If you use the fixed spacer, periodically check to make sure the piston retaining nut hasn't loosened from the rear of the suppressor.  Any movement of the can could lead to an endcap or baffle strike.

Thank you for the reply.
Ive searched a bunch from reading a few posts this AM, and it looks like I should be OK with the fixed mount for the can, threading it onto the barrel to replace the fake can.  I contacted SiCo, and double checked per this link they sent me again, https://www.store.silencerco.com/products/thread-mount?variant=221764050 ,
Only needing the piston setup if I dont want to use the fixed mount and run the risk of leaving the adapter mount stuck inside the hand guard/on the barrel. Which I dont plan on using this can for anything else I have, and dont have an issue keeping it with this scorpion.
Unless there is some info or first hand experience to tell me other wise, this is the route I'm going to take.

Correct, you don't need the piston on the scorpion, I am running a direct-mount SiCo hybrid on mine.
It may live on there forever now tho, because the direct thread adapter unscrews and remains on the barrel when I remove the suppressor and so now I can't get to the nut to remove the foregrip (that I can tell, haven't played with it much).
