Looking at 455 rifles
« on: December 30, 2016, 01:05:11 AM »
I have been looking into the 455's. Mostly the Lux and Ultra Lux models but i have a few questions about them.
First how big of a difference does longer barrel on the Ultra Lux make?
Do they both have adjustable triggers?
Is the Mr Fly trigger a worthy upgrade on those rifles?
I do not plan on putting a scope on it. It seems like every time I put a scope on a rifle I get bored with it immediately. I guess it takes all the challenge out of it for me.
I appreciate any input on the matter and further enabling of my addiction.... Especially if it sounds good enough to convince the wife that this is a good idea.

If you're going to use the open sights, then the longer sight radius of the UL will definitely be an advantage.

Reports are the Mr. Fly is definitely worth it. It will put the trigger pull into the ounce category.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

But how big of a difference does the longer barrel make? Is it noticeable?
Also how big of a difference is there between the  regular trigger and the trigger on the Ultra Lux?

The longer barrel gives a better sight radius.  If you shoot subsonic ammo, they are almost non-existent in the long barrel.

The regular trigger and the UL trigger are the same triggers.

The barrel is 8 inches longer. That is 39% of the length of the Lux barrel. It will be a huge difference for open sight shooting.

Like Viking said...the triggers on all 455 models are the same.

I lucked out. I found a 455 Lux for $200.
It's looks almost new. Got the original box and papers with it.
I haven't shot it yet but I will once the weather here cooperates.
Still debating if I should put a scope on it.

Here it is.

The guy I bought it from said he got it as a present but it wasn't his thing and he had only shot it a handful of times.
It's in perfect condition.
Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the Lux model and just the standard 455?
I was under the impression that there were hand lapped barrels and better triggers on the Lux and Ultra Lux. This doesn't seem to be the case.
Are there any improvements that some of you would recommend?

Look at the stock vs an American or regular version. More of a hump and lower comb.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

All the manufacturing criteria on the action and barrels are the same no difference.
Barrel length isn't a huge factor in accuracy on a sporter.I have a 455 lux with an american 20" barrel in an Evo stock and it shoots under 1/2" @ 50 yards with sub sonic ammo and a few tweaks (if I do my part). That still only makes it 1 moa @ 50 yds good for squirrels and crows all day long. It depends on your wants and needs.

Looking over the rifle it seems very well made and I'm excited about trying it out.
If it's as well made as the CZ pistols I will not be disappointed.
I plan on putting a scope on it and I'm looking at Vortex Crossfire II in either 3-9x40 or 4-12x44.

The Lux and Ultra Lux have different stocks and barrel lengths with the Ultra Lux having a 28" barrel.  For open sights the Ultra is preferred with a longer sight radius.  I am incredibly accurate with factory sights on my Ultra and I have upped the accuracy by adding a Williams peep sight with a target aperture.  It required some minor adjustment of the front sight upward but I have everything co-existing including the Williams sight, factory rear and front sight.  If I can see it, I can hit it.

Also, you will get lots of inquiries at the range with the long barrel Ultra Lux.  Both triggers are the same.

I've got a 455 Varmint and actually just replaced the trigger. I was waiting for the Mr Fly trigger but decided to go with Rifle Basix. Was able to install it myself with minimal effort (first modification I've ever done) and have my trigger at about 1lb though it can go down, and was set by default, to 10oz. Easy to install if you have a Dremel tool, solid, and love the feel. Just my 2 cents and offering another option should you decide to work on the trigger. Enjoy!

I also just had a Rifle Basix installed. Just make sure that it will pass a bump test, drop test and slam fire test. My gunsmith set mine at 2# and it works great. Well worth the $100
