New Rami going back to CZ already?
« on: January 28, 2017, 01:17:17 AM »
I already posted something in the gun smithing section but I'm not sure if that's the right place for this. I picked up my new Rami 2075 tonight and broke it down for initial cleaning. What I thought was some sort of preservative looks like rust and it was pretty heavy...take a look

I wiped the oil off and this is what I was left with

Looks like garbage right? Then I used some elbow grease and Hoppes9   This is the result

You can still see some rust. I was pretty shocked when I took it apart nothing like a buzz kill

I plan on writing CZ and sending them the pictures.... should they take care of this?

Or by some weird chance is this some sort a preservative and I wiped it all away LOL the outside of the gun looks fantastic and so does the frame ....it's just the inside of the slide

Is there pitting? Does a clean patch with solvent easily remove and show coloring?
I ask because there is a phosphate coating used on the CZ's. Some more than others. It's not a preservative, it's actually applied to the frame. Rust typically will easily, without much elbow grease, wipe off with solvent. A Q-Tip with solvent is a good test. If it turns a rusty red/brown, it's rust. If no color change, it's the coating.

I lot of red brown color cane up with a cleaning. And it's hard to see in pics but still a rusty haze even after a lot of elbow grease

I'm at a point now that there is no more color coming up but still has a rusty overtone

I have probably five or 6 CZs and never noticed this phosphate or rust before

Hmmm
I'll see if I can get some better pics

Sounds like it could be rust. I've seen a greenish phosphate coating and the red/brown phosphate coating in my CZ's.  I called CZ when  I saw the red/brown one in my SP-01 because I thought it was rust. I initially felt that same buzz kill. The guy at CZ asked me basically the same thing Cntrydawwwwwwwg posted. Turned out mine was fine. I've seen it now in 2 or 3 of the SP-01 Compacts I've worked on (between mine and friend's). CZ will take care of you if this is rust. I think this will be the first time I've seen it actually be rust (if it is). It sucks getting those rare issues.

It's possible that it didn't get as much preservative as it should, for shipping.
Go ahead and give CZ USA a call.
Personally, if you are no longer getting color on a rag, then I'd say what's left is the coating. If there's no pitting, I'd oil it up and go shoot. Just MHO.
It never hurts to call CZ though.

I can't tell if pitting. I'll need something stronger than my 1.50 Walmart cheaters lol.  I did a search and I did find one other guy talking about the inside of his slide looking rusty.  However never got a clear cut answer as his thread dissolved into feeding issues

You'll feel better if you call/email CZ. Whatever comes of it you won't have that lingering feeling that you wish you would have called.

Funny thing, none of my CZ's have had shipping preservative on them. I keep expecting to get a gunked up gun, but never have.

I have a very hard time thinking this is rust, very hard. First of all I have seen things like this and though somewhat difficult to clean off at times they do clean off. Second, right there in the center of the inside is a bare metal machined surface gleaming brightly. If rust would form anywhere it would be there and it would not gleam so brightly, period.

Ok I might be feeling a little bit idiotic here......just might be

I have 2 other CZ compact type pistols so I decided to take a look at them

Here is the Rami and my SP-01 Compact side by side.  Compact on left, Rami on right

More pronounced in the Rami but you can see hints of that color in the Compact

Now check out the cutout above rails

SP-01 Compact

P-01 OD

Rami

I think I worked my ass off to scrub out something that should be? [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

A real close look at each reveals hints of that color, it's just much more pronounced in the Rami

I think you'll be ok.  Looks like the rami slide to frame fit might be tighter wearing more surface area that revealed the treatment  removing earlier?  Maybe a base coat under the polycoat?

Actually the fit on slide to frame is looser than my other CZs. Little bit of movement in the Rami

150 trouble free rounds at the range today. As long as I did my part the little Rami was very accurate for a small pistol.  New sights in order for it though.
