A friend visited last week and we went to the range and I asked him to shoot my star P-09 at 100 yards. He only has experience with a SIG P-938 and a Ruger 22/45, and no experience with a red dot. He has visited and observed two IDPA matches, so he wanted to try a heavy 4.5" full size gun with open sights. I could have loaned him my second P-09, but, frankly, I don't want to be without them right now. Instead, I loaned him my SIG P-226 Stainless Steel Elite, the best SIG full size pistol I've shot, and my former IDPA pistol. It was the last SIG I bought, but I still use it when getting new shooters something very soft to shoot and easy to hold steady. I told him he could buy two plastic CZ's with the same money he would spend for a P-226 SSE, but that they might not fit him so well or be as comfortable to shoot, at least initially.
I'll see him again in a few weeks. The P-09 loaner might be next for this fellow, then we'll see what he buys. He will probably want to try a P-320 or some other Sig model, my bet. Or maybe he will offer me a lot of money for my P-226. Not sure I'll take it. I should, however. Then I could buy two full size P-10's when they come out, put a red dot on one and leave the open sights on the other.
