Reducing Trigger Pull / CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical
« on: May 01, 2017, 10:25:28 AM »
Hi all,

New CZ owner here - just acquired a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical (w/decocker).  I love the gun, but I would really like to reduce the trigger pull.  I see that CGW does a lot of great work on guns, but I'm trying not to spend the ~$400 on their trigger package.  I've also done a lot of research (maybe too much) and I am overwhelmed with information about the options.  Can anyone tell me what parts I can get from CGW that I can install myself to make some improvements on the pull?  I don't think I need to get the whole new trigger system, new hammer, etc - I think a few springs replaced will make enough improvements?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I can't do links right now. Look for the 3 spring kit for hammer, FP & FP Block. Get the tempered firing pin retaining pin too. Test this kit then consider a reduced trigger return spring & floating trigger pin.

Hello MikeLW. I guess you have CZ too. The parts you have mentioned,  are they equipped on your gun? If not too busy can you post video of it trigger puLL reduced? Thank you Sir.

Try the link beLow created by StealthyTX in the end of the video he'll enumerate what he did to his P0-7 regarding trigger puLL . If you can't access the link just search StealthyTX

I installed the ultra lite firing pin and springs plus an old style trigger, then polished the internal parts where I could.

That dropped the trigger pull to about 7 lbs. DA and 4 lbs. SA in my CZ PCR. Not too difficult to do and i am not close being a Gunsmith.

JMO ,-- Basic Requirements:
Buy a 15# and 13# hammer spring.  Approximately  $14 for both plus shipping cost  that will vary depending on where you buy them.
Do a minor amount of basic polishing to the action friction areas which makes the trigger feel lighter and smoother for no or minor costs.

Both springs will make an immediate improvement in the pull weight.  The 13# spring will of course give the lightest pull weight.
After you choose the spring you like best,  and later decide to make more improvements,  you haven't wasted any time or significant money.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Another noob question.  What do you use to "polish" the friction areas and how much is enough polishing?

Read the stickies on polishing the action.
Foremost thing to remember is that "polishing" is not removing metal to level any surface.  Machine marks and other small irregularities will remain,  but the  "contact surfaces" will be smooth and slippery.
Carborundum  400-1000+ grit lightly applied will work.  Flitz polish is used by some
Red rouge  can be used in places.  Keep flat surfaces flat.  Don't intentionally remove metal,  just make the surface smooth

Read the stickies for where and how info: "Smoothing the action" is one good one.  Read them that pertain.

You can do just the most important areas or you can do everywhere that has any friction.  The prior will have the biggest effect./time spent. The latter will make it remarkably smooth.

.

I have the 3 spring kit in my P-01. In my SP-01, I actually installed the 15# like 1SOW mentioned. Even that lone spring helped noticeably. I did continue to make mods slowly, testing each for performance and satisfaction. Sorry I don't have a trigger gauge to track any of my data.

I'm becoming a believer in the 3 spring kit for a duty/target CZ.  I recently posted annecdotal experience in the full size forum with a wide variety of ammo igniting without going to the extended length firing pin on my Matte Stainless.  Many more shots downrange will be the final jury.   Now making sure that I have more durable pins for replacement on order and before tweeking the PCR. :o

By the relative lack of noteworthy replies on my "Spring Change" thread, everybody has probably been there & done that.  Guess I'm a little conservative in my approach....

I really think so far that the firing pin block plunger spring replacement very closely duplicstes the feel of complete removal of this internal safety feature -- not that I've experimented with measurements or anything, but was very surprised in feel.

The sear case assembly is more tricky in the decocker variation than it is in the traditional safety version.  So be sure you buy or make a slave pin to use before you detail strip.
