I bought this VZ24 last Christmas from my Local Gun Store for a bit under $400 out the door. It didn't have a rear sight, someone did a half hearted attempt to 'sportsterize' it with a picatinny rail in place of the rear sight and a cheapo NC Star scope. Needless to say I bought a replacement rear sight from ebay, removed the chinzy picatinny rail and put on the ladder sights. I did some work to it also on the upper hand guard, deepening the groove behind the rear sight to make it easier to see the iron sights. I've put 100 rounds of 8mm Mauser through it. About 40 Hornady soft points and the rest were Vintage Yugo 1953 surplus ammo I bought from gunbroker. The sites are coarse but the gun is accurate. I also have a bayonet for it that came with the rifle, not pictured. I though to putting a scout scope on it to use for hog hunting, however I just like it too much the way it is. I thought of putting this post under the Curios and Relics section but that's under pistols and this is clearly a rifle. Any of you out there have any VZ24s as well?

My gunsmith buddy thinks very highly of the vz-24 Mauser, has several of them:) Nothing wrong with a good 8mm - I have a Spanish 1916 that was rechambered to 8mm Mauser, and it is great fun. )

Thanks for replying armoredman. Is that Spanish Mauser a small ring or large ring Mauser out of curiosity? The reason I ask is most Spanish Mausers I have seen are small ring chambered in 7mauser or 762 nato. I agree with your gunsmith friend that VZ24s are very good Mausers. I only owned two, one was a custom Mauser that wasn't 308 winchester like the seller told me so I sold it at a loss and this one which well is 8mm Mauser as advertised

Spanish Model 1916 has a small ring action.
