I'm Back
« on: September 07, 2006, 08:40:40 PM »
I know you all have missed me and posted many threads as to my whereabouts, but here I am!:hat

Ok, BS aside.
I packed up and moved from Utah to Valdez, Alaska!  Holy (all possible explitives inserted here)!  It is gorgeous up here.  Just to make some of you hunting junkies jealous, I have seen at least one black bear every day since moving here and it has only been 8 days!  The salmon fishing is unreal and the vistas are to die for.  I have been to alot of places in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah (Lived and huntined in all three) but there is nothing like this.

I have no way to post pics at this time since my home PC is still packed and the library ones have no optical drive, but I will once I get the chance.

Seriously, though, it is everything anybody has ever heard about Alaska.  I don't know why I didn't come here sooner.  Oh yeah, I didn't have a job.:rollin

Anyway, I just had to post this somewhere and <sniff>, I love you guys enough to make you the first!:rollin

Come visit, if you dare.  You will never leave.

Are you sure it's a different Bear everyday?  Better Tag them to be sure! :lol

Just wait till Winter sets in.  You may be wishing for a warmer climate then!

Hey EZ good to hear from you!  I think you'll start seein' snow fly any minute!  In a way I envy you.  I haven't seen anything green in months!

I am actually from Wyoming where I have walked to school in -40 degree weather.  It doesn't even come to getting that cold here.  The coldest I ever felt it get in my part of Wyoming was -70 with the windchill and coldest on the books for Valdez, AK is -20.  I love the snow, though.:rollin

In years past, I saw -35 in Anchorage, so it gets close to -40 THERE.

(I spent a year at a radar site in the Aleutians [Shemya], and it ranged from 20 degress to about 55 degrees.  When it got up to 50, folks would start running around with their shirts off.  They thought it was summer.)

I don't know why, but Valdez just seems to stay a little warmer.  I am guessing that it has to do with the depth of the water.  I have been told by some locals that the depth right off shore is bleep near 800 feet.  That is, from their word, why Valdez is the northernmost icefree port in Alaska.  But, it gets a ton of snow.  Go figure:rolleyes
