Brand new CZ 75D PCR owner needs some help.
« on: July 01, 2017, 11:22:53 AM »
Hi everyone, I am a brand new PCR owner and I have a few questions in hoping to get some answers.

1 - the DA on my new gun is very heavy, to the point I feel uncomfortable to pull the trigger.  how much better would it gets after a few hundreds rounds?  or should I replace the spring for lighter DA trigger pull ?  and what spring you would recommend?

2 - the stock grip on the gun feels great, but its kinda too big for my rather small hand, I am looking for to replace it for thinner grips. G10 or Alum ?  any recommendation ?

3 - would dry fire alot damage the PCR in anyway ?  or should I buy some snap-caps just for safe.

4 - any other upgrade on the gun is worth mention ?

any tips and advices is greatly appreciate, thanks for your time.

Hey there shadowneal. Gratz on the new PCR.

1. Live fire and dry fire will smooth out the action considerably at aprox. 500-1000 cycles. A through cleaning to get rid of the factory grease and then a through application of the firearms lubricant of your choice is also advised. If you decide to reduce the Double Action pull weight you can go as low as a 15# hammer spring with the factory Firing Pin and FP spring. Any lower and you may need upgrade parts to avoid light strikes with some primers. I like to run a new CZ in stock configuration for a few thousand rounds before i start messing with anything. I think it gives me a better appreciation of the upgrades when i do them and leaves the pistol stock in case a warranty issue comes up.

2. There are a hole lot of grip options for the CZ75 variants full size and compact pistols. I suggest that you start by taking a look at the custom shops options. Googleing "CZ75 compact grips" and then going to the image tab is also a good idea. If you find something that you like that you cannot identify it is likely that someone on the forums can help track them down.

3. Due to the design of the factory Firing Pin Retaining Pin high volume dry fire is not advised without some sort of buffer in place. It is my opinion that an O-ring (#83) behind the Firing Pin is the best option. Some guys even use a foam ear plug and they work well too. Snap caps can work as well but they are not effective for very long.

4. The replacement Spring Steel Firing Pin Retaining Pin from CGW is something that i think is worth while for any CZ with a Firing Pin Block (like the PCR). With this replacement pin you can pretty much dry fire without a buffer. I believe that it is still advised to use a buffer for prolonged dry fire sessions, especially with a heavy hammer spring installed. I do not believe that most folks will ever dry fire enough for it to matter but i like the extra insurance. As to the other available upgrades i would suggest reviewing some of the available upgrade guides. They can help get your head around the options and what is entailed in installing them.
