P-10C at 600 rounds
« on: June 09, 2017, 09:50:26 PM »
This pistol has exceeded my expectations.  I didn't know what to expect from a striker fired design.  I didn't know if i could adapt to the very different trigger pull sensation compared to a hammer gun, didn't know what to expect as far as accuracy compared to the excellent P-07.

Shouldn't have worried, although we had a long time to anticipate what the production pistols would be like.

The initial trigger pull was too heavy and gritty at a little over 6 lbs, but I actually liked the take-up and wall, and I shot the pistol fairly well out of the box.  Then I borrowed a 4 lb firing pin spring from my next door neighbor and the heavy pull was reduced and the trigger felt pretty good, although it was still a little heavy at 4-1/2 lbs, hard to measure with any consistency because of the trigger safety.  My expectations grew.

Next was some Sugru to ovalize the frame grip, a file to the trigger guard, and some JB-Weld to fill in and widen the trigger face.  A new Wolff 4 lb firing pin spring and some grease and the gun was a dream come true.  I also fattened the front sight with some 0.010" shim stock on each side, and installed an LPA adjustable rear sight from the 75B.  Then I dialed the gun in and it was becoming a real shooter.  Several good groups from a rest at 50 yards and then the 95+ timed fire targets last Sunday.  The pistol and I were a good combination now.

So, now I have a carry gun that I can't carry due to the grip and trigger modifications, or a bullseye gun that shouldn't be competitive but looks like it might be.  I'm happy.

I celebrated after 600 rounds without a failure or misfire of any kind, by removing the slide and barrel, cleaning the slide rails and barrel (but just a few patches!), adding some grease to the rails and some oil to the frame parts and extractor, and putting it back together, ready for the next range trip.  The frame parts are getting dirty, just the way I like'em.

After 600 rounds and some cleaning and fresh grease, the trigger pull is now 4 lbs-0oz to 4lbs-3 oz with the Glock 4# spring.  Not perfectly smooth yet, but very shootable.  I'll take the frame parts apart and do some polishing this week.  Might make a video, although Earlan357's are great and we aren't hurting like we were when the P-09 first came out.

More Sunday.   Maybe.  I need to shoot the Kadet and the 97.

I'm planning on running my P10C back to back with my P07 tomorrow morning.  It will be interesting to see how the two compare under live fire.  I love the P07 and the P10C has joined the ranks as a top notch carry gun.  It's a good time to be into CZs.

Great to hear your experience with yours Joe!

I'm gonna hit the range again next Monday.  Planning on shooting the P10 against my VP9.

Video, Shim?
Joe, what would you say about using it as a carry gun if Cajun Gun Works made a trigger that was flat faced with a dingus that went flush? Just sayin... ;)

Without the Sugru and JB-Weld, and with a good set of night sights and a comfortable trigger face, the P-10C should be an excellent carry gun.  Nothing on the left side of the frame sticking out, just bob the grip panel and carry it.  I can see where a new shooter without a background in DA/SA guns would warm up to the striker fired mode of operation very quickly, and the gun functions 100% straight out of the box.  If the new shooter will shoot it often enough to break it in and smooth out the grittiness, the trigger pull should be pretty good not great without the Glock 4# spring.

The run and gunners will prove the gun out as a carry gun.  I can imagine lots of folks will be shooing IDPA matches with the P-10C this summer and fall.

Don't forget the lefties out there too.  They love the perfectly designed ambi-controls, especially in a carry gun, without the added width of an ambi decocker or safety.

I have a much greater appreciation for the popularity of striker fired carry guns now than I did before the P-10C, that's for sure.  With no penalty in accuracy, and that is a pleasant surprise.
