SP-01's love workin
« on: August 18, 2017, 09:21:18 AM »
Decided to run my SP-01 without cleaning it. I just wanted to see how it would fair. I did this with my Ruger SR9c some years back and around 800 rounds into the test it started failing.

Last night I decided there were some additional mods and touch up I wanted to do with my SP-01 so my test would end. Nothing extreme, I probably did 1,500 rounds. Lots of handloads with 700X, so it was dirty. Could of been higher.... But this was a little more casual.

I didn't take any pictures because I figured this has been proven and documented far further than I went. I just wanted to chime in and say there wasn't a single issue through all those rounds. It is nice to know how these guns can run and run. Indoor shooting, outdoor shooting, outdoor carry, desert dust, lint, desert summer heat, desert winter freezing temperatures, new bushing (didn't clean it then), and so forth.

Again, this isn't a scientific test, just me letting my gun run and see how it handles it. It was disgustingly dirty, but never acted like there was an issue. Side note I have polished the internals, done upgrades, and what not. These CZ's just love to work hard.

I'd like to see just how long it will do. I ran a test with my Glock 34 and went 13k rounds and stupidly I cleaned it out and never found out when it would malfunction.

Scarlett,
That's awesome. Oddly enough, my SP-01 is my only CZ that I haven't polished the internals etc. It just happened to come with a very good smooth trigger on it. I think I lucked out. My P-01 took some serious polishing, but we all know how rough those buggers are, and the SP-01 Compact took some polishing for sure.

well my SP-01 failed on me just last week, and after a mere  7000 Plus rounds, now the weapon is cleaned regularly.
seems that I had a misfire, popped on the second strike from the DA mode, I figured either a harder primer or not  seated all the way.
no other malfunctions over that time period, but Obviously I can't trust this thing any longer!
I tell Ya if it misfires again in the next 6-7 thousand rounds I am dumping it.

Yeah, there's definitely variance in finish between CZ's. I hear they are notorious for pushing their tooling, so often a rougher finish can be just those pistols hitting the end of the tooling life. I like running the polishing anyways, it's just a fun and rewarding part of the hobby for me now.

Whew! BTW I hear recoil springs go at about 7000 rounds on 75 variants (excluding the Rami). So you may see failures due to that rather than it needing to be cleaned haha. What a piece of junk though, so unreliable!

Ha, that's how I am generally. My other CZ's got cleaned but for some reason the SP-01 just got the treatment.

Yea I thought so too.

I had a few malfunctions but upon inspection they were ammo related (high primers) or mag related (I wore out 2 magazines by the feed lips)

The gun itself didn't malfunction.
