P-10 series extractor install question
« on: February 05, 2022, 08:22:03 AM »
So I decided to detail strip and clean my P-10C after about 350 rounds - since it was new (I did a field strip and clean when new initially).   As a first side note, I found it quite dirty as the carbon had caked with the factory grease (was heavily greased where you could not see or get to during a field strip).  I used the CZ manual to guide the disassembly and also watched several videos.  Turned out it was pretty straight forward and went well allowing a thorough gun cleaning (and proper -re-lube).

My 1 question about re-assembly is about reinstalling the extractor, specifically the pin.  The CZ manual says to re-stake it once installed.  However, none of the videos did this - and I recognize that the videos were not done by CZ.  Since this pin is fairly tight going back in (carefully punch pounded back in), I don;t see why CZ would say to re-stake it?  On the slide inside pin hole you can clearly see where CZ had staked it from the factory (wasn't a punch stake, rather a "bar" stake on the slide edges).  Is re-staking really needed?   And if so, what tool would be appropriate?

If it's anything like a 75 series,  if it drifted down it would get tangled up with the action and lock up the gun.  It's highly unlikely to drift down but if it does the consequences are severe.   Hence the reason they stake it.

Staking is simple and doesn't need to be aggressive.   I use a spring loaded center punch with a hardened tip to fold over small portion of the slide into the extractor pin hole.  This works best if you seat the extractor pin just below flush.

Cheers,
Toby
