Brass to Face
« on: October 05, 2017, 11:59:48 AM »
When I first got my PCR, I went to the range and found that a lot of shell casings ended up hitting me so I tried changing to a Cajun Gun Works 14# recoil spring.

Today, I tried the PCR with the new recoil spring and approximately 50% of the shell casings went to the front of me and the other 50% went to the back with many of them hitting me.

What's strange is that my D RAMI ejects 100% of the shells to the front and I've never been hit with any brass when shooting the RAMI.

What's up with this?

How old is the gun? Did you buy it new? If it's still under warranty call CZ-USA they will take care of it. Possibly a problem with the extractor or ejector. If the ejector is the culprit it may need to be tuned which is not something you want too try at home unless you are experienced at such an operation. Also if it's under warranty it's best to let CZ fix it and not make any mods to the gun yourself.

I'm the second owner and was also wondering if it might be an extractor issue.

Could be but I'd have a look at the ejector as well and make sure it isn't chipped. Both parts can cause this issue but a chipped ejector or one with an improper angle can certainly cause brass to fly wildly.

Had that issue with Magtech ammo. Never an issue with Federal, Fiocchi, or S&B. I still have the stock RSA on it.

I don't own a single semi auto that smacks me with brass with any specific ammo. They all function as they should with anything.
Recently went through this issue with a series 80 colt 1911. The gun would throw nearly every round straight back with any ammo most of them skimming the top of my head some right between the eyes. I removed the antiquated GI style ejector that Colt still uses and fit an extended style with a properly contoured angle and the gun now kicks brass perfectly to the right.

Do you have any other de-cocker CZ's or a friend with one?

My RAMI is a de-cocker.

I'm really coming to the conclusion that I should be focusing on the ejector.  Both my Glock 19 Gen 4 and Glock 43 eject the shell casings in every possible direction but I got spoiled by the RAMI.

At the end of the day, I know that it doesn't matter where the shell casings go, only where the bullets go.

I'd swap the ejector(sear cage assy) from another gun, check fit/function, shoot it and see where the brass goes.
