  • Leaving a carbon footprint one round at a time .
Thought I would share some pics as I went along on this one . I'm not a fan of the square trigger guard on the 75s especially in the transitional years it makes sense to me to modify them to round.

So here's how I do it . First of all find the width of the TG on a average, on this one it seems to be somewhere around . 100"

Then go ahead and scribe a line to go by when grinding :

Then go to the old trusty bench grinder , which by the way turns at 1700 not the insane 3400 of the cheapy ones , with a fine stone and go slow and careful :

Then when close to the lines on both sides , go with sanding drum on rotary tool , again checking to not go past the scribe line :

Careful blending with your arms tucked into your sides :

Then switch to a cratex rough wheel to deal with the sanding marks :

A little hand sanding with some 150 just to see where I'm at . Then begin to look at the side profile . This is where the work actually starts ,since you want the width to be the same or even all the way . The edges should run parallel from blend to blend .

As you can see below I have a couple hours of work ahead getting things to look like the one in the bottom of the following pic , which started out life as a square TG

Not all that tough of a job , but it does take a little time to get things to look right.

Thanks for looking ,
Kirk

I admire people confident enough to take on this type of task. It is clear that it is turning out nicely.

Good work!!

Thanks for sharing - interesting to see the process/progress. Mind you, if I attemped this I'd probably end up with a triangular trigger guard  :)

I've been planning on doing this to my CZ 85 Compact (clone made from CZ 75 Compact) to make it look more like my Pre B CZ85.  I just need to wait till spring when I've got the money for a refinish job, too.

Thanks for taking the photos and sharing them.

Oh, I had planed on using my hobby 1" belt sander for mine.  Might be slow, compared to a grinder, but that'll be okay.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
