Tactical Sports vs P09 - The gun I wanted vs the gun I needed?
« on: November 05, 2017, 10:06:11 AM »
I spent some time almost literally hunting for my CZ 75 TS, which I dearly love. The looks, the feel, the size, the handling, the light trigger, the 'ping' when I field strip the slide off because it fits that perfectly...God I love it all. My first shooting session with it though didn't exactly blow my pants away. I figured it was a matter of practice and time.

Not too along ago a P-09 joined the family. Took it out the other day after a 'cool-down' period of a few months and shot it for the first time (yes, time from buy to shoot was months). I wanted to dedicate it for reloading and lead shooting. But I figured I would send a few rounds through it, simple S&B FMJ.

My first shots from the P-09 at 25 metres blew my Tactical Sports out of the water! (or rather I should add '!?!'). And now my mind is driving me crazy with thoughts such as "beginner's luck?" "Was the TS a mistake?" "Do I simply need more practice with the TS" "Are some guns simply destined to shoot better or worse in certain hands?"

They are different guns for different purposes.

The Tac Sport is designed for competition while P09 for duty/carry.

As far as accuracy, when I first shot my Tac Sport coming from a Glock, I was pulling my shots as I was so used to the Glock's 4lb trigger versus the pound a half for the TS.

When you get used to the TS trigger you should find you will have faster split times and have more accurate shots at distance.

Someday soon I hope to experience the differences for myself!

P-09's are consistently very accurate guns, no surprise to me that it is more so than the TS. Your TS may benefit from a CGW 10X bushing.

My bet is that the difference isn't the mechanical accuracy of the gun.  I'm thinking one just fits you differently.  I have to make all kinds of changes to the P-09, P-07 just because my fingers are so long.  The distance to the trigger is too short on the P-09 for me to get my trigger finger placement correct and get a good grip on the flat sided grips.  I don't have that problem with a 97 or 75 steel gun.

Perhaps you are at the other end of the spectrum--small hands or short fingers, so the short reach to the P-09 suits you better out of the box.  If so, maybe some thinner grips or shorter trigger reach is what you need to get the guns to an apples to apples comparison.  Just a thought, based on trying to "equalize" several different frames and seeing how my results change when I get the gun to fit my hands.

I'm not surprised you had good results with the P-09.  It is still by far the best full size polymer gun available, in my opinion.  But I, too, would love to have a TSO and will get one some day.  I want a full size P-10 first, however.  I'll have to buy some more Sugru and JB-Weld when I get the full size P-10, however.  I already know that for sure.

My P09 9MM is the most accurate center fire pistol I've ever shot.

I have a well used CZ Tactical Sport in .40 S&W that may impress me once I've had more time to shoot it and get used to it, but right now that P09 is just in a different league than my other CZ pistols.

I'm not sure how the Tactical Sport .40 S&W compares to my P09 .40 S&W, I do know the P09 .40 is not as accurate as the 9mm P09.

Guns are like that.  No two are exactly alike.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I shoot my 75BD and P-09 equally. Both are fully Cajunized.
