New RAMI BD: Wow (range report + minor grip screw issue)
« on: January 18, 2018, 11:28:34 PM »
Hello forum. First post here. First CZ.

Just picked up my RAMI a week or so ago, and to say it's a surprising, impressive, endearing little gun is an understatement. Even in two range trips, I'm finding I shoot it just about as well as any gun--it's diminutive footprint seems to have little bearing on how well it shoots.

Groups are tight, and I don't feel like I have to "fight" the gun to hit POA. Whereas so many guns want to group left of where I'm aiming, the RAMI hits dead on. I do find I have to hold the gun pretty tight; but, I feel like the ergonomics make achieving and maintaining that tight grip fairly easy. The DA trigger reach is pretty long for my short fingers, but I can make it work. I know CGW has a reach reduction kit (among other awesome things) so I think that would probably be a very worthwhile improvement.

So far, I've put around 300 rounds through it. Only had one FTFeed on the very first magazine I put through the gun (last round). From what I read here, that seems like it's fairly normal.

So, I love the gun. I kinda want to send it off to CGW. I kinda dont' want to be without it for 3 months. Sigh.

Anyway... I'm having a minor issue with one of the grip screws.

When I was changing out the factory grips for some lovely wood examples, one of the sleeves/bushings came out with the screw still in it. The sleeve (+ screw) will screw into the alloy frame with the wood grips. However, it loosened slightly when shooting today. Also, I cannot get the factory grips back on, because the sleeve will not fit through the hole on the factory grips (the sleeve actually pushed the grip panel up off the frame when it was coming out).

So, any suggestions? I was thinking I might use loctite to seat the sleeve in the frame. Then, when it's cured, hopefully I can twist out the screw independently of the sleeve. Is there any reason not to use loctite on the alloy threads? From what I can tell, the threads on the frame (in the hole) seem okay--not stripped or otherwise messed up.

Anyway, looking forward to sharing more posts here. And, any insights on my grip screw quandary would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

The outside portion of the bushings are oval and fit into oval holes in grip panel. The bushings must be properly positioned in the holes in the grip panel for the grip panel to fit flush with the frame. The bushing should not move when installing grip panel screws if you hold the grip panels down against the frame. Also the bushing should not move when you remove grip screws if you hold grip panels against the frame.

But once the grip panels are off, at least on mine, the bushing can easily be turned. I decided to loctite my bushings in place. But if you do be sure they are positioned properly in regard to holes in grip panel plus not in too far or not far enough. If bushing is in too far it can bind on your magazine.

Good part of all this is bushings will not move if grip screws stay tight as bushing is locked in oval holes in grip panel. Therefore I would not be too quick to apply loctite. Use for a bit and then decide. Good luck.

Thanks for the insight and the advice.

I managed to separate the screw and the bushing (heated it up with a hair drier, held the bushing in a pair of lined pliers, and screwed out the screw). No damage to the threads on the bushing that I could see.

I played with the positioning of the bushing so the oval portion lined up with the oval portion on the grip panel. Once I had that right, I marked it with whiteout... and applied a bit of blue loctite to the bushing. It seemed looser than the others, so I figured it made sense to lock it down.

Anyway... it all seems lined up properly now--the grip goes on fine.

Thanks again for the advice. Looking forward to putting more rounds through this puppy. Just have to decide if I wanna go the CGW route...
