CZ recoil impulse
« on: February 04, 2018, 03:03:03 PM »
Can anyone shed light on the P gun vs. the 75 series based on these comments.  My own theory is that the captured recoil system makes the P guns softer in recoil

I shot my 75 Compact the other day with the same ammo against my P07.  It was much sharper and felt harder in the web of my hand than the P07 - and this is from a heavier steel framed gun known for soft recoil.

How does the P09 stack up against the Phantom?  I ask because the proper gun to compare is the P09, and I've read posts that are all over the map.  Some say the Phantom has sharper recoil, some say it shoots flatter.  I've even read a post that says the Phantom was nicer than the SP-01.

Oh - and watch this video starting at 7 min:

He does make an INANE comment about the slide rails (the P09 rails are also partial inserts), but I do take the observation of impulse seriously.

Cant give you an exact answer from experience. But I do remember reading a long time ago on a thread talking about glocks having "softer/less" felt recoil  because of the polymer frame actually flexing during recoil - I thought it was total B.S. until I watched a slow mo video of a glock being shot - there is a lot of flexing going on with the polymer frames.

Maybe that has a lot to do with it.

I'm pretty sure my p-09 is the softest shooting gun I've shot, and that's coming from shooting a G34 the last year or so.
List of guns here?

I've heard that due to the flex of the polymer frame the recoil feels softer. I'd asked a smith about the difference in recoil spring weights between the P series and 75's, and why the P series had a heavier spring. That was his explanation along with a very general 30% difference - - generally.

BUT... There are other variables in perceived recoil impulse and actual recoil as well. Weight and the location of the weight is part of the physics. Along with the design of the pistol. Basically it's really hard to compare pistols that are too dissimilar. Probably the best way to see these differences would be to compare an SP-01 and the polymer SP-01 Phantom. I'm not saying what you felt wasn't real, just that the most true differences would be felt between a polymer and metal frame of the exact model.

Ultimately I guess I am looking for folks who have shot the Phantom and P09.  Cuz... I am deciding between the two now.  The largest difference in the two guns are the recoil spring system and slide weight.  I believe that the captive recoil spring and heavier slide MAY make the P09 so much softer.

Note in the video he says his P07 is much softer than the Phantom.  We seem to think here that the P09 is softer than the P07.  So... is the P09 much softer than the Phantom?

I can?t say for SURE but I know the P09 is softer then my Shadow Custom that is much heavier.

The P09 has something going for it and it just plain works.

I think a lot of it can be attributed to slide weight. Out of the box, my 07 was much softer shooting than my P-01. Both guns weigh nearly the same, but the 07 slide is considerably heavier. I haven't fired a Phantom, but the slide looks to be lighter than the std SP-01. I'm probably alone in this opinion, but I found the 07 to be a better handling package than my 09(sold).
On a similar note, my brother in law has a P320 Compact Carry and a P320 X-Carry. The X-Carry has a lightened slide and is considerably more snappy compared to the standard compact.

Brian, most of the Phantom guy's still post in the SP01 Sub Section. A few guys that post in here a lot just haven't yet, but I'm sure they will shortly.
