Walther p99 compact
« on: August 11, 2005, 06:23:52 PM »
Gentlemen, Do any of you have any hands-on experience with the WAlther p99 COMPACT? The grip looks to be very short, as short as the Rami? How does it compare to the Glock 26? This pistol has a da/sa  anti-stress trigger, what ever that is. I know Walther is good quality, but ive not heard or seen much of this model, it might be a real dog for all i know , and Walther is dumping them on the market cheap. appreciate any insight on this pistol.

                 thanks, Pistolaro

"and Walther is dumping them on the market cheap. "

Why do you think that is?  I would stick with the Rami and mini Glocks.  Ever since Walther's partnership with Smith & Wesson,  I would not buy a semi auto from them if my life depended on it.  I had a horrible experience with a Smith Sigma a while back and their customer /warranty service is beyond horrific.  Don't get me wrong,  Smith revolvers are unparalled in quality, but their autos leave alot to be desired IMHO.  For the same money,  you can have a Rami or a Glock.
The Walther Smiths are being dumpted cheap because nobody is buying them.

I helped to test the SW99's for the Sherrif's department.  The compact 99 was my favorite.  It was very accurate and easy to shhot.  If they are selling them chep, I will be buying one.  The Sigma's are junk.  The 99 series are fine weapons, IMO.  Smith went through a terrible time when they were owned by the Brits.  However, I have never had any trouble with their service.  Sent a used 6906 back to them because it was shooting low and they paid the freight and changed the sights for free.  Maybe even they have given up on the Sigma's.

The P99 and SW99 are quite different from the Sigmas, and far superior. The P99 full size I shot had the best ergonomics of any polymer gun, and its trigger was the only TDA I've ever liked. It was so small and handy that I can't see any reason for getting the compact size.

I owned a Sigma for less than a week. Trigger and accuracy were pedestrian, but the ergonomics were fine.

You might want to wait for the new polymer M&P series of autos from Smith, which will be less expensive than GLOCK and apparently very nicely engineered.

There's a Walther forum over at www.glocktalk.com. Somebody there may have experience with the gun you're interested in.

If you are looking for a great subcompact or compact, try the Glock 26 or 27, or a Rami,  A Taurus Millennium Pro, or a Springfield XD subcompact, but I cannot recommend a Smith auto.  Trust me, no matter the price, you will regret it, stick to the above recommendations and you will be fine.

Dear King,  the pistol in question is NOT A  S&W  p99 , but a " true " german Walther. Frame & slide both manufactured in Germany by Walther. I believe these are of better quality than the S&W model. As you know i own and carry a Rami 9mm.  CZ is a  great sub-compact.

            NEED TO BUY,  PISTOLARO

Pistolaro:
I would buy the Walther.  The S&W are not clones of the Walthers.  They use Walther frames and Smith uppers.  The S&W I shot was excellent.  Yes, it is small, but that is what you want in a carry gun.  The barrel length is not the issue in concealment, but the frame and grip is.  I have already contacted my local gunshop to see what we can get a Walther Compact P99 for.  I am expecting it to be about $439, but my LEO price might be better.
King had a bad experience with the S&W service, I did not.  They were great to me.  I have heard from people that Taurus service stinks, but when I called them about a heavily customised 44 Special, they wanted to see it as well as work on it.  I guess it depends on who answers the phone and what mood they are in.

Dear Pastor, I appreciate the help on this, CDNN has only a few of the Walther p99 compacts left. $429.00 plus shipping {$10.00 } , also you pay no tax. This p99 model has the sa/da anti-stress trigger, to my understanding , these are hard to find. I have looked at other Gun shops and they are asking $90.00 more for the same product. To me at least it seems like a good deal.

By the way are you preaching this LORD'S DAY?
IF so, what is your text?
                IN CHRIST, PISTOLARO

Pistolaro,  I pastor a Baptist church in West Tennessee, so I am preaching every service (3 times a week) unless we are having a missionary or special speaker.  This past Sunday I preached from John 15, "No Cloke for Sin" in the AM service, and from Hebrews 13 in the PM service with a subject of "Such Sacrifices."  Thanks for asking.  You can see our church website at www.firstbaptistatoka.org
