Sig Sauer 45
« on: March 17, 2018, 06:33:40 PM »
I attended a CCW class today and a co-worker of mine brought his new full size Sig Sauer P320 45 to the class. It looked like it was very well made and had a great trigger, but he had multiple FF during the course. Has any one else heard of problems with the Sig Sauer P320 45?

I've heard of feed issues across the Sig spectrum. I've had 4 sigs and all had feed issues early on. My recent P229 Legion choked 24 times in the first 400 rounds. I will say it did straighten out after breaking in but I had a recent conversation with another member who was having ongoing feed issues with a Sig M11 A1 and Sig was giving him the run around with it.
Like everyone else Sig has their issues too. The bad thing is metal framed Sigs tend to run double plus the cost of a metal framed CZ and I've never had feed issues with any of my many CZ's.

I bought a SIG 226 and was so sadly disappointed in the grip (which everyone apparently complains about) I haven't even shot it enough to know if it feeds well. But, I did find out that new aluminum grips will fix this issue.... for $130 !!

I always though CZ was the inexpensive version of the SIG.
Now I'm beginning to think SIG is simply the VERY expensive CZ.

After a few CZ's, I briefly contemplated buying a Sig. Then I started looking at grips and triggers and such, $$$! I'll stick with my CZ's thank you very much.
My brother in law loves his P320 Compact so he bought a 320 X-Carry. After a frustrating amount of feed failures with different ammo, he contacted Sig and was told to buy Sig ammo which fed fine. That turned him off, so he sold it and bought an M&P 2.0.

The owner of the Sig 45 said the Sig ammo he bought for it ran fine. I think he was having trouble with Federal FMJ. Not a good sign. He said he had some steel case Tula ammo he wanted to try. I'm thinking this could really be bad.
I've never had any trouble with my CZs, except for a couple operator induced issues.

Don't have a P320 in .45. My P320RX and Sig 226 Enhanced Elite in 9mm do not experience any of the problems you witnessed. Feed them a steady diet of Freedom Munitions, new and reman, 115, 124 grain bullets. 226 has several thousand rounds down the pipe, and P320RX has only about 700.  Wonder why the .45 would be so different?

My new 226 continues to disappoint. I could not hit any of my 6" or 4" steel plates with this pistol. I was trying all sorts of ammo and different grip holds. Nothing worked. Even sent the pistol home with my son for 2 weeks. Then I switched to paper targets.

The stock sights were hitting 6" off to the left at 10 feet !! I had a very small group of 5 hits way off the target. So it wasn't me at all. 15 minutes with a sight pusher and everything was put right.

On a brighter note... the gun continues to feed well. It's eating my reloaded RN, JHP, and conical FP ammo just fine. No issues there.

Quite a long time ago, I had a 9mm Sig P226 and a .45 Sig P220A, both made W. Germany.  I shot both of them quite a bit for about three years but found that they had become Safe Queens in deference to my Cz75, Cz Clones, and other 9mm and .45 handguns.  The P226 was sold off during the Clinton AWB period, along with 5 pre-ban Magazines, brought more than I had paid for it.
The .45 P220A was sold to a retired Police Officer who had carried one before and wanted mine very badly.  He made a very generous offer for it and the sale was done!

During my ownership of them, I did not like the high bore axis of both, and the P220A was very picky about Hollowpoints and Semi-Wadcutters.
Also, the P220A, back then, was quite undersprung for a .45 with only a 14 lb Recoil Spring.  Current P220's use a 20 lb Recoil Spring.
I had gone to a 16 lb Recoil Spring which made it's operation, more tolerable, but I still was never really happy with it.
I have no regrets about having sold them, unlike some other Firearms I actually do miss.

Despite all of the "iconic" Sigs out there, the only one that made me pull the trigger was their 1911 family.  Lotsa bang for the buck with SS construction, checkering, night nights, etc. in 45 ACP.  That said, if a 45 Auto 1911 is on your list there areea whole slew of great choices out there!

Oh yeah, CZ has a 45 as well... ;)
