Need Help With P-07 Failures
« on: April 01, 2018, 05:46:17 PM »
I'm going to a week long defensive shooting class soon.    I wanted to shoot my P07, as I actually carry it some time.

I shot it at a match today and it was un-reliable.   The gun has been perfect on everything but some very short loaded flat point rounds.   At the match today, I had 3 light strikes.   Using DA for a restrike did nothing.   When I ejected and inspected, there wasn't even a dimple in the round.  I was using Fed SPP.   All other rounds went bang.

Also, at the end of 2 of 7 stages, when I racked the slide to eject the remaining round, to of them extracted, but failed to eject.

I'm going to tear it down and look for problems.   If I don't find a problem that I can fix, I need to shoot something else at the class.   I'm not taking a gun that jams or doesn't shoot 2% of the time.

Any suggestions for areas to look at?

Sounds to me like the firing pin channel and extractorare dirty.  Have you changed the hammer spring to a lighter one?  Also could be ammo related.
I remember when "Common Sense" was common.  I must really be old!

How soon is your training?  If you have 6 weeks (max time frame) to send it back to CZ-USA to be checked out, I'd do that.  If it has issues, they'll make it right.  Recently sent my P-09 in for a failure to feed issue.  Runs flawless now.  Turnaround was 3 weeks for mine.

I think you've already answered your own question. If the gun has been fine on everything but these short loaded rounds then there's your problem.  What exactly do you mean by short loaded?

The ammo failing all over the place today has run in this gun just fine many times.   The short ammo was a 1.04 OAL round that the gun doesn?t like.  I?ve never had light strike or ejection problem before.

You really didn't clarify that in the op. How old is the gun ? Could still be under warranty. Have you made any mods to the gun? If so which ones? Diagnosing problems like this over the internet can be hard and without ALL the pertinent info it's that much harder.

Gun has CGW RP firing pin spring, extended firing pin and an 18# hammer spring.   It's 2 years old and as been flawless on the ammo it was failing on yesterday.   Total round count is about 3k.

I'd be looking at to be sure timing is still good and the firing pin block is functioning correctly also maybe pull the firing pin and inspect everything there as well. If you have rounds not firing with no indication of the firing pin making contact then something is amiss in that area.

What is the minimum OAL for that particular bullet?
If it's above what you loaded it to then load to at least minimum OAL and do a plunk test.
Different malfunction but my recently acquired P07 does not like Montana Gold 124 gr hollow points at all.
Things get weird with tightly chambered barrels like CZ's have.
Just a thought.
