Omega convertible and Kadet "issue"
« on: April 08, 2018, 11:37:38 PM »
Not quite sure if this would be better as a Kadet post or here but some the issue really stems from the host frame I'll start here.
I'd had a problem with the 75B Omega convertible when it was new where in firing from the SA mode the hammer would drop to the half-cock position. A continued trigger pull will fire as a normal DA pull, or the trigger could be relaxed and it would fully lower the hammer.
I found one thread concerning this that was resolved with a larger diameter roller, I think as part of the disco assembly. I checked mine and it already appears to be the larger diameter. I also took a look at the parts in that area of the mechanism and gave the edges a bit of scotchbrite buffing. I will admit that I don't fully understand how these all interact with each other so if anyone can steer me toward a good breakdown of the Omega workings I'd appreciate it.
The polishing really helped out. Although to will still occasionally catch. I am largely assuming that there are still some sharp edges but I don't want to get carried away till I understand more.
The real issue now is when I install the Kadet on this frame. With the Kadet this condition is very prevalent. And annoying. I certainly enjoy practicing the double action mode but not so much when it starts off as SA and then stutter steps to the DA. I thought perhaps that it may have something to do with grit and grime buildup making it worse, but it will start acting up very quickly. Otherwise the Kadet runs fine but a little two stage trigger snap kinda detracts from the accuracy.
Now, I could just avoid running the Kadet on this but I shouldn't have to. And, for all the crap 22 spits back into the action the Omega is a lot easier to detail strip than the pre-b that would be its alternate. Nobody wants to pull the safety from that as a routine item!
So, suggestions on what to polish or look for?  Anyone else have similar experiences?  The Omega, BTW, isn't all that old or seen a lot of use as I got it new last summer. It's probably run with more 22 than 9, all told. But it's seen >1000 rds of 9.
