Backstory:
I want to get a little 22 lr to teach my 4 yr old daughter. Crickett... not interested. Savage Rascal sounded good. CZ 455 Scout sounded event better!
Problem:
BUT the CZ 455 Scout is ~2.5 lbs heavier than the Rascal. I am not opposed to doing a bunch of work to the whole stock to lighten it. It sounds like some people can get about 1lb on wood stock material removal.
Solutions:
I am looking for anyone's input on lightening rifle stocks. Even better if anyone has done this to a CZ 455! I've mauled over ideas like cutting off the buttstock and mounting a really light weight AR style stock. Not sure it that will help much or be realistic. I am also thinking that removing material from the front of the stock will help eliminate the front end weight for a little kid. I'm sure it is easier to just get the Savage Rascal, and maybe that is the best bet. I just really hear good things about the CZ 455 and am making sure about my options. Thanks for any and all advice!
I bought my daughter a Cricket when she was 4. At this point(just turned eight) she still hasn't outgrown it, and she's tall for her age. IMHO, anything larger would've been too much for her to handle.
At this point, we're still shooting from the bench - nothing off hand. Each time we go out re-training is required, she's very intelligent but doesn't retain much from each shooting session. At $150 for "stainless & walnut", I think it was money well spent. It's very accurate and with subsonic ammo you almost don't need ear pro. With ear pro on, all you hear is the bolt.
Edit: just reread this and I'm sorry it really doesn't answer your question. Just thought it was worth mentioning that we've had a pretty good experience with the Cricket(it might actually be a Chipmunk).Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
