anyone with this problem with a P-10?
« on: April 28, 2018, 10:18:00 AM »
I just recently picked up a CZ P-10 suppressor ready pistol. I've been able to take it to the range on a couple of occasions and it's performed flawlessly, except for two minor problems.

The first one is easily fixable. It shoots consistently to the left. Elevation is fine, but the farther the distance from the target, the farther left is shoots. The rear sight is noticeably off center, so once it's adjusted I think all will be well.

The other problem is minor, but really annoying. The suppressor ready version comes with a 17 round mag that uses a Plus 2 extension on the magazine. There is a gap between the magazine and the frame that is constantly pinching my small finger. I've tried adjusting my grip, but for me there seems to be no way to avoid my finger overlapping that gap.  I realize all semi-auto pistols have a similar gap, but I've never had one pinch my finger like this.  I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but I'm talking about pinches severe enough to draw blood and leave black marks, so it is more than an inconvenience.

I've talked to CZ customer service to see if anyone else has ever contacted them with this problem and they suggested that I exchange the Plus 2 base plate with a standard base plate to see if that helps. They've been great and are even sending replacement base plates of both standard and the Plus 2 in order for me to try new ones to see if they will fit better.  The only other solution I can think of is to gently file the sharp edge from the Plus 2 so that there's a little less material at the front of the magazine.  Other than putting some sort of Hogue grip or stick on tape, I'm out of ideas.

Anyone else ever have this problem and what did you do to fix it?

I slapped a + 2 base pad on mags for both of my P10's, never had that problem. I've had that problem shooting Glock with mag extensions. I torque my wrists in though, my fingers rest on the grip of the gun down there, more than anything else; probably makes it so it never pinches me.

This would be my suggestion, file a bevel on the area that's pinching you. This happened to me a few times with the standard basepads, my pinky pretty much hangs off the bottom of the grip. I ended up with CZC aluminum basepads. There's still a gap, but it hasn't happened again. This is my first CZ that I didn't instantly love. That said, there's a lot to like about it and it is really growing on me.

If there is enough room try putting a small diameter o-ring on the mag to take up the space.
All I got!

This is my first CZ that I didn't instantly love. That said, there's a lot to like about it and it is really growing on me.

That explains exactly how I feel about my P-10. On one hand there IS a lot to like about it. It feels great in the hand (grip may be borderline too rough, but manageable), and everything works perfectly.  Since I had to adjust my rear sight a bit, I think my next visit to the range will be met with better accuracy.  But for some reason as mentioned before, this is the first CZ that I didn't  instantly love.

This is my first polymer CZ, so that may be the reason. I've been spoiled by being lucky enough to own a Shadow 2, and Shadow Orange, and just recently a TSO.  The all metal CZs are just outstanding guns, so good in fact that I just assumed that I would automatically love the P-10 too. I do like it, but it's taken more time to get to that point.

Placing the P-10 along side my Shadow Orange, it's obvious that size wise they are very close. The shape of the two, the feel in my hand is very similar. It's very obvious that they are from the same family and that CZ tried to take many of the features of the older SP-01 and incorporate it into the newer polymer P-10.  It's a great gun, but it's just taking time for me to really get enthusiastic about it.  I guess when you consider that is is less than half (an in one case less than one third) the price of some of the other CZs I own, it's to be expected. Just the fact that CZ has managed to come up with a polymer version of it's classic P-01 for so little money is a great feat. Most people tend to start with the less expensive guns and eventually work up in price and quality. I guess I confused things by starting near the top first.

So I'll continue to plug away and use the P-10. I am getting more used to it, and it is beginning to feel better and better. I just didn't think it would take this long.

You also have to remember you are comparing a striker fired service weapon to four times more expensive competition guns .
Not a fair comparison and two completely different animals .

You're 100% correct, it's not a really fair comparison.  I sort of did the same thing with my Sigs. I started near the top of the line and purchased a few Legion models and loved them.

Then I decided to give the P320 a try because I had heard so many positive reviews of it. It was definitely a different kind of feel that I had to adjust to, but I did and now I'm a big P320 fan and own the X-5 and X-Carry.

I'm sure that will eventually be the case for the P-10.

Well it may have taken a little time, but I think the P-10 is finally getting closer to being fully accepted. I drifted the rear sights over a bit to compensate for it's shooting to the left and now it's dead on. In fact at 10 yds I managed to shoot 15 out of 15 bullseyes. I may have to frame that target as I'll probably never see that again. Granted that's only 10 yds, but even 15, 20, and 25 yds were right on, although naturally it didn't show that pin point accuracy. Still, impressive.

I think that might have been what has been clouding my acceptance of the P-10. Now that the accuracy problem has been addressed, I have to admit that I feel a lot better about it. With another 150 completely flawless rounds down the tube, the P-10 has been absolutely perfect in it's operation, so it's well on it's way to being a valued member of my small CZ family.

Now, if I could only fix that annoying pinch that I get on my little finger from the gap between the magazine and grip, it would be just about perfect.
