To Omega or not on a new CZ-75B??
« on: July 13, 2018, 02:51:19 PM »
Please forgive me if this topic has been raised before but I am being offered a practically new blue CZ-75 B with the "Omega trigger" and i get mixed reviews from what I have read so far so I am not sure what to think.

Do I buy this thing or am I better off with a standard trigger model???

Thanks for your time. I need to make a decision by tomorrow afternoon...

Keep in mind there are 2 types of 75 omegas. The current version is convertible, has ambidextrous safety/decocker, forward pivoting decocker, flatter trigger (similar to P07/09) and different rear sight. Older version is a safety model, not convertible and looks very similar to the standard 75b.

As to your Q. I have a P01 Omega convertible and am completely satisfied. Great gun that I?m using this IDPA season.  Believe some who posted problems had them made in 17, haven?t seen too many issues reported in those made in 16 or 18.

As for the the older omega, believe it?s no longer made, but I may be wrong here. A solid gun, no issues that I?m aware of. Only real comment is some report one can improve the trigger on the standard 75 series better than on the original omega model.

Hope this helps

It's a personal decision, but I prefer the Omega trigger to the standard hooked trigger. The shape of the trigger is what I like better. I've read the Omega trigger system is simpler than the standard and comparing the two, I'd say that's true (though I'm no expert). I own a 2017 75B Omega Convertible and a 2018 P-01 Omega along with a standard 2017 P-01. I love them all, but prefer the Omegas... YMMV ;)

I own both - Omega and CZ75B types.

You should be thinking about:
1. Do you know what you want to shoot/carry?  A decocker model or a safety model?  If you're not sure then an Omega you can convert from decocker operation to safety and back again may be a good pistol for you.

2. How much are you willing to spend to modify it?  Modification means smoothing out the action, replacing some factory parts with aftermarket parts, etc.  Lots more options available for the standard CZ75 models as they've been making them and we've been buying them for many more years.  You can do some amazing stuff with the older CZ75B models.  I have zero experience of the CZ75BD pistols.

For me, it wouldn't matter if it was a CZ75B or a CZ75B Omega - I carry with the hammer cocked and the safety on.

Now, it does matter with the P01 because the standard P01 is a decocker and I bought the P01 Omega so I could have an aluminum framed pistol with a light rail and thumb safeties.  That's why I bought one, so I could carry it cocked and locked.

And the triggers on some are pretty darned good.  My P01 out of the box is just over 3 lbs. SA and my old P07 (P07's and P09's are Omega models, too) was 3&1/4 lbs. SA out of the box and very nice.  Pull the trigger back through the firing pin block safety bump and it stops, the next little pull drops the hammer.  After a few years of shooting it, a CGW reduced power trigger return spring and firing pin block safety spring and a very small amount of stoning/polishing it's under 3 lbs. now.

Good luck with which ever model you buy and what ever mods you end up doing with it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I think you'll find people split down the middle. I'm firmly in the non-omega camp. FWIW, CZ doesn't make any competition pistols on the Omega platform.

What everyone else said, plus this....if your the type to keep it stock and aren?t a performance hound, do the Omega, if on the other hand you have plans of ?improving? on a factory production CZ go with the standard CZ. Worked on CZ?s a lot, so much more can be done to a standard stock CZ than an Omega......hope this helps, whatever you decide....ENJOY!

First of all thanks to everyone for your great input!!!!
I decided to get the gun since its brand new and I got it from a friend for 450 bucks total. Its the Omega that can be converted to either safety or decocker and I will run it with the decocker. I dont plan to do any mods to the trigger so from what I have read here, I made the right choice. I have an SP01 and absolutely love it.... so when this one was offered to me at that price I couldnt say no.

I do want to put tritium sights on it... and I need a good holster for carry... and another mag or two and I will be set.

Again thanks for all the help!!!!!

I?m in a bit late on this but I think you made a good choice and snapped up a deal that you won?t regret. When I decided to get my first CZ I was a bit undecided on whether I?d prefer a safety or decocker as it was my first da/sa hammer gun. I really like it and found that I rather prefer the decocker over the safety, at least in that model. The forward facing lever seems to put a few off but after trying out the other style on someone?s SP-01 phantom I like it much better.
I find that the really big plus on the convertible models though, is the ease of disassembly, at least compared to some older models that I?ve been working with. I find that the interlocking assembly method is really ingenious. Plus this trigger has really smoothed out nicely.
I hope that you?ll enjoy yours as much I enjoy mine.
