recoil assembly spring - rod loosening
« on: April 25, 2018, 11:57:05 PM »
I have a new p-07 urban grey pistol and noticed tonight the rod protruding out of the frame/slide.
I field stripped the pistol, and discovered the rod ends have loosened.  I hand tightened the ends of the rod (effectively compressing the spring and shortening the length of the recoil spring assembly) and this solved the issue.
Is this normal?
Should I be placing loctite in this area so that it doesn't unscrew itself again?
I'm about 500rds into this new gun.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A lot of us have changed to the steel guide rod and non captured spring.  It allows you to also go to a lower power spring.  These are over sprung from the factory.  Also much easier to keep clean.  CGW and Gray Guns both have them.
I remember when "Common Sense" was common.  I must really be old!

with the lower power spring, will I have issues cycling 124grain rounds?

If you use Loctite remember to degrease the threads first and then give it a good 24 hrs. to dry.

I went the other way on my P07.  It came with the spring I had to fight with every time I reassembled the pistol after cleaning/lubing.  I ordered the captured spring guide and never looked back.  Kept the factory recoil springs, too.  But usually I shoot full power loads in my pistols.  I'm experimenting with light loads for lead/coated bullets but haven't got to any (yet) that shoot groups to suit me, so I'm still trying different powders/loads.  At that point, we'll see how the factory recoil springs react to "powder puff" loads.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
