It's a sad realization...
« on: November 01, 2018, 01:46:18 AM »
The BREN 2 is obviously different internally, and is a completely new rifle. With only the US market for the BREN 805, I doubt the company will keep the line open much longer...I could be wrong, of course. But I feel that ten years down the line our beloved 805s will be like Daewoos, well regarded and talked about, but hens teeth collectors items. Perhaps in 30 years mine will be worth enough to send my grandchild to college. ;)
Still, sad.

There are two truths: Things always change and nothing is ever perfect.

Hopefully, CZ will continue to supply 805 parts. With as much as I don't shoot, it may never be an issue for me, sadly.

I have a strong feeling spare parts will be available for some time as the select fire models will probably be moved to reserve rifles with the Czech Military and the contract to supply them probably is still going. Then again, who knows - there might be a huge upswing in interest or a military order for the 805...never know.

I was pretty sure that the 805 would be dropped once the Bren 2 started coming online.  Verified by watching distributor inventory dwindle.  That's why I bought mine before they were all gone.  That said, I'm waiting for the pipeline to fill so I can buy a Bren 2.

I wonder if we will look back on the 805 like some people do to the all metal frame pistols.  The S&W 5906, CZ 75 and Sig 226 could be considered the pinnacle of semi auto handgun design.  Although heavier than their stryker fired, massed produced, polymer equivalents, there is no substitute for their solid feel and robust build quality.

For the duty pistol, by all means take the polymer pistols.  For the gun collection and range shooting, my preference is the sturdy steel frames.  It will be interesting to see how the 805 vs the Bren 2 will settle out over time.
