Here is the 91197 (which undoubtedly you've seen pictures of already)

There are some differences between the 91197 (high polish compact) vs the the full size 75B high polish.
To be honest I am a little disappointed at the apparent laziness of CZ. They polished the slide and frame and pretty much nothing else.
The polish job was about on par with the full size high polish.

Full Size High Polish vs Compact High Polish

Unfortunate Differences
1. The slide stop lever on the 91197 is not polished
2. The safety levers on both sides of the 91197 are not polished
3. The mag release on both sides of the 91197 are not polished
4. The barrel of the 91197 is not polished
5. The hammer spring plug on the 91197 is not polished (I think the full size was but don't 100% remember)
6. The hammer of the 91197 is not polished (holding the factory full size polished hammer for comparison)
7. The slide markings of the 91197 look like they were done at the local Things Remembered store (pics of the compact and full size for comparison)
8. The extractor on the 91197 is not polished

Differences
1. The beavertail of the 91197 is more SP01 shaped than the other two models. It appears thinner and perhaps a tiny bit higher because of that.

Notables
  • The hammer surfaces on the 91197 look pretty rough.
  • So do the inside flats of the frame where the trigger bar rides. (I suspect this is simply a function of it being stainless rather than plain steel)
  • The DA trigger pull came in at a 5 pull avg at 7# 10 ounces
  • The SA trigger pull came in at a 5 pull avg at 3# 10 ounces
  • The safety on the compact is more flush to the frame than the hi-polish. i.e. the hi-polish has more of an extended safety (not by much)

Here are comparison pics between the 91197 and the full size high polish (modified)

Note - The 91197 pictured has already been modified with polished slide stop, safeties etc.

I took some time tonight to finish what CZ started and I polished the:
  • Slide stop lever
  • Both safeties
  • Both sides of the mag release
  • Hammer spring plug

I didn't bother with a few things like the barrel and hammer. I plan on going with a CGW race hammer anyway.
I didn't detail strip the gun. I'll wait to do the extractor when I replace all the internals with CGW parts.

And here is the 91197 with the 99021 and the 99041

I do not see any notable differences other than the obvious (slide markings and type of metal and barrel finish)

All three of them have a nice upswept beavertail which is much more comfortable than the alloy framed compacts and older steel framed compacts.

There are differences in the barrel finish between the three guns.
99021 - blued
99041 - unfinished
91197 - unfinished

And just for fun the 91197 is here next to a hard chrome (matte rounds and polished flats). You can see there is a bit of a reflective difference in the polished between the two guns. The hard chrome looks more silver than the stainless hi polish. Both are like a mirror finish though.

I'd love to see a pic of just the barrel of the 91197 P-01.  :)

There are differences in barrel finish I didn't notice at first.

The beavertail and under the trigger guard look truely like an SP-01, much better than the 99021. Can you verify?

Thanks for all the pics and thoughts!

Yup. I kept looking at the pics and wondering if I was crazy.
I'll take some pics of them and see if there is a difference.

I took some time tonight to finish what CZ started and I polished the:

Mine should be at my FFL tomorrow... What was your process to polish these parts, by hand or buffing wheel, or?

Thanks,

K.

I'm no professional.
I did a quick polish job with a Dremel, buffing wheel and polishing compound.

If I were to spend longer I'd hit it with 1000 grit and then 1500 grit before buffing.

I'm really surprised by all the things that weren't polished on the 91197...disappointing. I have a 91108 and it is magnificent and I thought the 91197 would be the same. Too bad.

If the 91197 really is just an over run from a police contract as has been surmised in another forum, FB, then these were produced to that standard as an issue weapon rather than a presentation piece.

I wouldn't be surprised if the frame and slide were polished in a tumbler with media and nothing else was done to them.

Then they were assembled with un prepped SS parts.

Not sure I buy the police contract over run story, that's what they said about the 99021... At first there only about 500, imported, then the numbers kept growing, until it got up to around 15-1600.God only knows how many were actually imported.. You know the old saying, "buy the gun and not the story".  Man, does that apply here..  The way I see it, CZ can easily spit more of these out anytime they want to, and they'll get snapped up.. What they ought to do is simply tell everyone that they're going to make small runs of these, say once or twice a year, and be up front about it.. Are the barrels in these stainless as well? In the pics above it looks like a carbon steel barrel.... points off if it is... If I'm going to spend $700+ for a "stainless" pistol, then the barrel had better be made from stainless.
