My uncle, who recently passed away at the age of 93, was a ww2 vet who was in the thick of the fighting all the way to Austria. Just before he passed away, he gave his grandson 2 pistols he brought back from the war. This one is marked fnh pistole modell 27 and it has German eagle/swastica marks on top of slide flat , the left side of the frame and on the barrel. Barrel also has WaA78 marking. .Serial number 301022 is on both top strap of slide and right side of frame. The odd thing is it came in a leather shoulder holster instead of the typical style holster. Was hoping someone could shed some light on this gun and its history. Unfortunately ?Unc? didn?t talk much about the war but what he did y?all about indicated he was in it up to his eyeballs and lost many, many friends all around him. So, he never really shared how he got this pistol or when. The family would love to get more info on it to help fill in some of the gaps in its story. Thanks.

https://en.everybodywiki.com/Waffenamt_codes (see second from bottom of page)

It is difficult to tell without see pictures of ALL marking on the gun--each means something and they aren't necessarily applied in the same time frame.

WaA78 is a German military proof-mark most likely applied in Marienthal.

Serial numbers for the CZ 27 are not that well documented due to the war and poor record-keeping.

But it appears that the serial number you gave is most likely from 1940-1941.

My source is R. J. Berger's Know Your Czechoslovakian Pistols, 1989.

Thank you for the reply. At least we have an idea now of when it was made. The pictures I posted show all markings on the gun. I?m still curious about the shoulder holster. Anyone seen one like it before?

Here's some links with some holster info

http://www.tague.at/pistolen/en_index.htm?/pistolen/pages/en_cz27.htm

http://www.p38guns.com/CZ27.htm

from the references above  most 'military' holsters were worn on the side. Yours could have been custom made.

I posted pictures and am able to see them. Is everyone not seeing them. My pictures are hosted on google pictures. Haven?t had problems using them on other forums.

Strange...on my laptop computer there's just a bunch of blank lines under your initial post.
Using Tapatalk on my cell phone I see 10 photos.

I'll have to view them on the phone and check the markings against my books tonight.

Okay, I've reviewed all 10 photos and don't have anything to add about the CZ27 itself beyond what you mentioned in your first text.

In photo 7, right hand side of the frame, there appears to be a stamping there which you didn't mention and the photo didn't include but just the start of it.  Can you tell us what is stamped there?

Also are there any marks on the grip or trigger guard (sometimes you can find unit markings there) or on the magazine?

The holster is in really good condition which makes me wonder if it really is contemporary to the gun, or maybe whomever it belonged to didn't wear it outdoors in the elements.

to the far right of photo seven is the beginning of the serial number which is shown in photo eight. Also in photo seven if you look closely or zoom in you can see a light stamping of an eagle and swastika just over the back end of the trigger Crescent.

Also are there any marks on the grip or trigger guard (sometimes you can find unit markings there) or on the magazine?

no other markings on the grip or trigger guard. The magazine has no other markings other than the model 27 stamp on the bottom of the floor plate

The holster is in really good condition which makes me wonder if it really is contemporary to the gun, or maybe whomever it belonged to didn't wear it outdoors in the elements.

I guess we will never know. This is the holster the pistol was in when my uncle gave it to his grandson. I sure would have liked to hear the story about how he got that gun but he took that information with him to heaven.
