Safety Lever question
« on: October 18, 2018, 10:41:11 AM »
So like many, I cannot stand the factory safety on the Evo and am looking for a good replacement.  A while back i picked up the PMM levers, but after installing them and working with them for a bit, I have really found them lackluster due to the size/shape of the engagement point.  I know that allot of people like the AK selectors, and I myself could see myself using them....but just wish there was a shelf on them so that I could use the index finger to easily reengage the safety (might not be an issue...but going at it sight unseen).  The other option that I am looking at is the Apex long lever.  The look of these is good, as is the reviews and the couple of youtube videos I have seen of them.  That said, on the Apex site, it specifically states that it will not work with the folding carbine stock.

Now the question....
How does the apex safety work with the carbine stock.....and how is the AK safety (short/long) for pure trigger finger manipulation?

You can definitely do any safety manipulation you want with HBi?s long AK safety on the right side. I use stock safety on left side and long AK on right. I tend to disengage the safety with thumb on stock left safety and engage the safety by using trigger finger on long AK.

I have the same setup and it can easily be manipulated with no issue. The leverage it gives you makes the engagement very easy. I am an ak guy and I love this safety.

Had the same situation; trying to figure out which one.  Wouldn't know for sure until I tried one.  Started out with the HBI short AK (both sides) and am satisfied with the new set up.  Not an AK guy, but adapted to the new ergonomics quickly.

Being right handed, I have a PMM on the left(I tried them too), and a long AK on the right. I engage/disengage with my trigger finger. I find it to be very intuitive/fast.

Ok.

So I just got in a left side long Apex safety.....and once again, I feel as though I have done nothing but waste money on this Evo.

First off, the safety itself is nice, and manipulation is smooth and fairly intuitive.  The issue is with me and my tiny girly hands.  Without having to completely break my grip, I cannot even reach the safety lever with anything other than the very side edge of my thumb.  And even after breaking the grip, there is no meat on the safety to provide a good engagement.  I really just wish that Apex included some kind of shelf of flat section to the safety, because as it sits, it is something that I cannot use.

Anyone else wish that you could try before you buy with these accessories.  After all, it doesn't matter how good the reviews are, or second hand accounts....if your stubby fingers cant reach the controls.

Just the HBi long AK style safety lever on the right side.  I'm a rightly and it works beautifully disengaging and engaging with just my trigger finger.  I've tried the short AK style lever and it didn't work as well as the long one for disengaging.

Same here, just the long AK style on the right. I really like the ease of feeling if the safety is engaged (since it kinda gets in the way of the trigger). I disengage the safety on the left side with thumb, but engage it on the right with the trigger finger.
