1000 rounds of Sellier & Bellot for PCR
« on: November 03, 2018, 07:26:10 PM »
I bought 1000 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 115gr 9mm from Brownells for $164.00 shipped, recently.

I shot 200 rounds of it through my PCR this morning without a single issue. Shot well, maybe a little less accurate than the WWB I usually use or I was having a subpar day.  Either way it was a great range day for me.  I now have 1240 rounds through my PCR with 3 ammo related issues.  The WWB had 3 failures, 1 was a failure to fire, the primer had a good dimple but the round didn't fire. I tried it multiple times.  I also had 2 WWB rounds that wouldn't chamber, I tried multiple times to chamber both rounds but neither did.

This thing is built like a tank.

I'm still waiting for the weather to cool off enough so I can carry my PCR

Great price. Is it cleaner than Remington UMC or American Eagle?  Just curious.

Right now S&B 115gr at Brownells is out of stock and advertised price for 1k is $214 plus $10 shipping.  I guess I missed that deal. I shot 1k of Remington UMC 115gr Green box and I didn't have one failure but it wasn't the cleanest.

One of favorites is S&B 124gr.  Well worth the $10 more per K, IMO.  Most of my CZs are accurate with most 124gr including NATO.  I figured I could always find 115gr off the shelf (I.E. Cabellas Herters, which for a long time has been mfg by S&B).

Wise choice to bulk buy just in case we see a panic after a possible Socialist Wave.

I've been shooting WWB through the PCR lately.  The S&B is definitely cleaner shooting than the Winchester but not significantly.  I was down to 200 rounds of practice ammo so the Brownells deal came just in time

It was the first time I've bought S&B.  I've seen it priced low before but avoided it.  I figured since CZ uses S&B when they test their guns, I'd give it a try at that price

S&B 124g is pretty much cleared out from SGAmmo  ;)

Nice find, MadDuner but for me shipping is about $27. I tell ya, the price of ammo has come down a lot since I bought from Target Sports USA a few years ago. Does anyone know if the S&B shoots about as clean American Eagle?

I've shot several cases of S&B 115gr through a few CZ's. Find it pretty darn accurate, super consistent and pretty clean. Quite a lot better than I remember WWB ever being. American eagle has been off my list with CZ;s since the longer COAL choked a p-01 I had several years ago.
List of guns here?

S&B is great stuff and their boxes are more compact so the ammo stash ends up taking up less space.

Brownells almost always has active coupon codes so check gun deals at this link
https://gun.deals/coupons

I hate having to play that game but they've had some great ammo deals over the last year and I've been stacking it deep. They frequently have codes for 10% off ($10 off $100 order, $20 off $200, etc) AND free shipping.

I like S&B ammo as it?s always accurate.  But I will not buy it.  I reload and their brass is troublesome.  On the rare instance that I do buy ammo I pass on S&B.

I haven't noticed any issues reloading the S&B brass at all.
I buy new a percentage of the time, but continue reloading anyway.

What kind of reloading issues were you seeing with it?

Their brass is known to have issues.  Primer pockets are small and the brass itself requires more force to resize.  I can tell when one slips by just be the feel.  I throw all S&B brass in the scrap bin.  It jams up the works when using a progressive.  And I got tired of the primer pockets crushing primers.  Even their own brand primers are tight in the brass.  I know plenty of people use it.  I?m not one of them.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm using an old Dillon 450 progressive and haven't noticed anything like that - luckily.
I've noticed the S&B primers are "softer" than others, but have noticed nothing different about the brass.

Usually I'm the guy having trouble with something nobody else does.
So I'm happy to have "won" this time. LOL
