Winchester 244

 I was at Powder Valley picking up a 8 lb. jug of 231 and a case of Federal pistol primers and noticed Win. 244 is in stock.  Is anyone using 244 for 9mm, 38 spl. or 45 acp mid range loads ?  With 231 and hp38 being harder to find it might be wise to switch to the newer powder if it's clean and works well.

Winchester is famous for charging a premium for their products. They are introducing a product when others are doing the same, and the others have lower introductory pricing.

The Winchester 244 was priced about a dollar per lb. less than 231 about the same as hp38.  When my supply of 231 and hp38 run low I'll give the new 244 a try.

Ive burned up most of a pound of 244, its plenty decent enough powder.  I got a lb of it, sport pistol, vectan BA 9.5, and VV330 back when someone had a deal on hazmat with 4 lb or more purchase of powder.  Only used coated lead with it, and I think I may have only used 124/125 gr 9mm projectiles with it though that part I don't remember, but that being said, it neither impressed or disappointed me.  Sort of like 231, which Ive only used a pound of as well, its usable over a wide variety of applications but doesn't stand out as being outstanding at any one thing. 

It did seem to give pretty good velocity at the lower side of the charge weights, and accuracy was good as well.  If you like 231, you should like it, I would buy the lower priced one between the two or flip a coin if they were the same price.
