Varmint laminated twist rate
« on: November 27, 2018, 06:09:27 AM »
Hello everyone, come to this forum looking for the twist rate of my rifle. I have a 550 308 varmint laminated. I have found conflicting information on the web. Some say 1:12 other 1:10, although I'm not sure if it's exactly the model. Then in this same forum there is a post that says it is 1:11.
I can not find precise information. Any place where you can find it?
Thank you

Hello,

If there are no markings on the barrel to indicate this, please note the serial number and call CZ. They will be able to give you ALL of the information you seek :)

Unloaded rifle.

Cleaning rod.

Tight brush/patch that will cause the rod to rotate as it is pulled through the barrel.

Tape measure.

Insert the cleaning rod from the muzzle end with the bolt open.

Attach the tight brush/patch to the cleaning rod.

Pull the cleaning rod till it starts to turn and then stop.

Use a sharpie to put a mark on the top of the rod at the muzzle.

Pull cleaning rod more - till you see the sharpie mark come back around to top dead center like it was when you marked it.

Grab the tape measure and measure the distance from the muzzle to the sharpie mark.

That is your barrel twist in inches.

For a .308 it should be a whole number.  There are some calibers that do  "weird" 1 turn in 9.5" or something, but a .308 is usually either 10" or 11" or 12".

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

Hi everyone.
I could not turn the cleaning rod, I think it's time to look for a new one. But at least I had a reply from cz, saying that all of his 308 rifles are 1:10
"Thank you for using the CZ 550 Varmint model made by Ceska Zbrojovka a.s.

I can inform you that our rifles in .308 cal. have 1:10 twist rate.
Yours faithfully,

MILAN K****E"

Ahora en castellano: Creo que a pesar de tan linda respuesta, voy a comprar una nueva varilla de limpieza y lo voy a medir. ;)
