In the large picture you can see signs that the trigger pin has been removed/tampered with.  Your going to want to replace the stock recurve trigger anyway and you'll want the CGW floating trigger pin too.

But this is a sign that someone has been inside it for whatever reason.  I wouldn't worry too much but you'll want to go through it and make sure someone hasn't bubba smithed this thing.  A good detail strip and clean should help uncover any smith work performed.  Internal parts are cheap but can add up if the previous owner decided to try and alter angles/timing on the sear/hammer/disco/trigger bar.  I'd replace the springs just for piece of mind (all of them aside from mag release).

For the price paid I would have snagged it.  Cheers to a good deal and clean pistol!

Cheers,
Toby

I'm not sure if Bubba Smith was the previous owner or not. He a friend of yours???
I'm definitely going to be breaking it down for a good cleaning. I've spent the last few days reading....til my eyes were about to pop out. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as soon as I get my hands on it.
This wait is killing me!!!! LOL!!!!

I got it!!!! I finally got it!!!!!!!!

Picked up my sp-01 today and went strait to the cleaning table. Broke it down for a deep cleaning and everything looks stock as far as I can tell. Doesn't look like Bubba Smith owned this one after all.  ;D

Now for my first question and need for advice. To my surprise I found a plastic guide rod, does this look right....I mean how do you know which way to turn it, curve up, curve down or maybe even curve to the side???  (see pic) Where do I go from here???

As a side note, I picked up some ammo for it. I got a case of winchester nato 124gr. fmj and a case of remington 115gr. fmj.

up, down, sideways won't really matter. All the guide rod does is keep the recoil spring from tangling when fired.

Just adds a bit more weight up front. FWIW, I?ve never heard of the plastic guide rod wearing out or breaking.

I finally got some range time in and here are some of the results.

I think I know why this pistol was at the pawn shop. I loaded the two factory mags and the cartridges would rattle very bad in the mags. I thumbed the first 3 or so out and was able to turn the mags upside down and pour the remaining 15 or so out. I tried to run each mag once and about 4 shots into each the pistol would fail to feed. I just laughed about it and went on to use my new mecgar mags that came in a few days ago, problem solved.

Started out at 10yds. and later moved to 20yrds.
Ammo used was:
winchester nato 124gr. fmj
remington military/law enforcement training 115gr. fmj
winchester usa steel case 124gr. fmj
speer gold dot 124gr.+p bonded HP (this is my home defense/truck/carry ammo)

speer gold dot 10yds./10 shots

Top group winchester nato 124gr. 10yds/10 shots, bottom group rem. 115gr. 10yds/15 shots

winchester steel case 124gr. 10yds/10 shots
We had failures to extract with this ammo in the sp01 and a hk vp9.

This was a mix of winchester nato 124gr, rem 115gr and winchester steel case 124gr. at 10yds.
I would shoot a full 19rd mag at this target between shooting the smaller targets. There are about 140 shots fired at a fairly fast pace, including the one mag to the head.

rem. 115gr. 20yds/20 shots

speer gold dot 124gr.+p 20yds/6 head shots (last 6 I had with me)

I'm very happy with my purchase, can't wait for my cajun gun works parts order to come in.  ;D

Congrats. On the factory mags, sounds like they are sticking. I suggest pull them apart. Clean everything with solvent or brake cleaner. Clean them out good. Then take a small amount of car polish and apply to inside and out. Once dry, buff completely clean. Reinstall, and see if that helps.

As for the rattle, that can/will happen with double stack mags. Usually a couple whacks in the palm of your hand will seat the rounds.

The mags were cleaned, but not waxed, before going to the range. I'll give the wax a try. Can you suggest some very good quality replacement springs for the factory mags. I wouldn't mind getting some just because.
I can see why so many shooters like these pistols!!!!
