Best CZ: P07 or SP01 Phantom
« on: December 12, 2018, 07:40:29 PM »
Already have P01, PCR and SP01 safety. Also have P07 that I?m not shooting well. Thinking of trading P07 for Phantom!  Use would be for range, car and bedside. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Buy in person.  Both can have very good or very bad triggers.

If you want to tweak, smooth, etc., the P series is MUCH easier to work on. The 75 decocker is QUITE tricky.  The Phantom takes cheap mags.  P07n not so. The P07 comes with better sights.  P has seriously recurved trigger - P07, flat.  P07 is G19 sized.  Phantom is G17 sized.

I vote Phantom. it uses the standard CZ trigger group so no surprises there. Can be easily tuned with some springs and a new hammer. No reason to get into the decocker. Lots of options on sight upgrades. Biggest issue is the grip. It's different than a standard CZ - obviously. I have a Gen 1 so no backstrap and use a slip on Houge handall grip sleeve with the palm swell. Huge difference! Magazine are interchangeable between your other guns which is a huge plus. I also have a stock P09, great gun, but not a Phantom.

For me, neither.  IMHO it's the P-09.  Interchangeable backstraps.  Among the softest shooting 9mms out there.  Decent trigger.  Reliable, haven't had a malfunction with mine yet after 3,000+ rounds.  Absolute tackdriver.  Only flaw for me is it could stand to have more aggressive grip texturing.

For me...Best...pistol...ever.

Depends on where you live. Here in AZ there are 2 active gun forums with classified sections, the bulletin board at the range, and an online "backpage" type of advertiser. Then there are a couple of national gunboards you could post it "for local sale". If I were selling a handgun out of state I would go through an FFL. For a fee they will box and ship for you. There is always GunBroker and ArmsList. My preferred method is to put in the back of the safe while I think about it. Turns out I'm much better at buying stuff.

I think the Phantom is an ergonomic dream. My P-07 is just fair.

I think the Phantom is an ergonomic dream. My P-07 is just fair.

No doubt the Phantom feels better in the hand because it retains the classic CZ grip.  MANY 'expert' reviewers dont know CZ and say it maintains the CZ 75 grip.  Wrong.  The P series is slimmer like a 1911, and needs more traction.  (which can be remedied.  For me, the thing just plan locks into my hands well at speed.

BUT... for me and many others the P07 and P09 just plain shoot well.  If you have a proper grip, the P series can be good and the P07 is excellent.  Ergonomics is not the same as feel while holding.  It includes drawing, getting on target, speed, ease to get to controls, and ability to HELP you deliver follow up shots at speed.

I looked at a review the other day that noted the Phantom recoil was much more than the P series. I believe it, because when I handle a phantom, the recoil spring is very weak.  Still need to shoot one.

The problem with CZs is that most gun ranges have limited selection when it comes to CZ and it takes about 500 rounds to know anything about a gun.
