Dumb newbie guide rod spring question
« on: January 09, 2019, 04:06:53 PM »
Ok i'm gonna bite the bullet and ask a dumb question.

Took my CZ 75 TSO apart for its first cleaning. I love this gun, but I'm preaching to the choir.

Anyway when I took it apart I had to wrestle the spring off the rod. Had it oriented on my bench, when I went to reassemble, guess what, the spring got away. When I went to reinstall it wasn't going over the larger part. Flipped it around and slid right over, which made me think maybe the other end goes on.

Does it matter which end?

BTW bought an optic mount and a red dot. One of the mounting screws was a fraction longer than the 2 original screws, which led to slide problems. So careful when you mount. I've asked CZ for the screw measurements for the gas pedal screws and haven't heard back.

Anyways, thanks for your time.

I am unclear on what you are asking. Are you asking if makes a difference which end of the recoil spring you install the guide rod into?
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I don't think it matters,  but why would you take it off in the first place?

Put the first 300 rounds through it. Wanted to clean and oil.

Ok, the OCD kicked in an I decided to follow Rmach?s advice and put the tighter end towards the breech. Took a little fiddlin but it slid on. Now I feel much better.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Joe

Oh and the screws are M4x0.7. I found them at the CZ store. Also they sell longer screws that will hold the thumb rest and the mount at CZ Custom. Ordered a bunch of them.

Tight end on guide rod. You can screw it on reverse style to get it on.

If you install it tight end out (the other way) you can do this:

I now run the CGW guide rod and it prevents it from happening.

Cheers,
Toby

Toby, thanks for the link. Found it very interesting. I may measure the extra springs in the case to see if they are tapered.

I understand about OCD, but all you have to do is put oil on On it.
don't worry about taking it apart every time you clean the gun, that's not necessary.

I like the captured spring guide rods.  Replaced the one in my DUTY P07 with a newer version that uses a captured spring.

I do wipe them off, then put a couple/three drops of oil on them and put them back in place.

On the pistols that have removeable springs I admit I do take the spring off every so often, wrap it with a patch so that I can spin the spring and clean the whole surface off.  Then I wipe off the guide.  When I put it back in the slide I'll put two or three drops of oil on the spring and cycle the slide a few times to stat spreading it around on the spring/guide rod.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
