Hello. Please Help CZ 82 Questions
« on: December 25, 2018, 12:32:43 PM »
Hello. I have done my research and know the basics of the CZ 82. I am considering purchasing this particular gun. Please see link below. I hope the link works since evidently I can not attach pictures? I want an original gun in very good or better functional condition. I want the gun to be original and unaltered. Is this gun correct and original for 1985 vintage? Why is the barrel blued (appears blued) when viewed at the ejector port? Is this original and correct? What should I inspect before purchase. Thank you in advance for your help and expertise. Greg

It looks correct to me, but I don't have one handy today to compare to.

They are also available from some of the surplus dealers (e.g. Classic Firearms) if you weren't the auction winner. I don't have one with the Police decal on the magazine though.

Update: I purchased this gun (won auction). It has an inspection period so I want to make sure it is a very good or better functional item and original (not altered). Does anyone have any information regarding the blued (appears blued) barrel as seen at the ejection port? Most pictures of other CZ 82 have a shiny finish? What material is the barrel? Thank you and please help me decide on this gun. Greg

Mine is in excellent condition, and it had the darken barrel like in your pic. The sliver slide behind was that color too.

I took it apart. Sanded with fine grit sandpaper and polished it back with compound. It came out nice and shinny. I too noticed mine was different there like this one. It will be fine.

The main one that gets people the first time they look up close at a vz82 is the polygonal rifling in the bore.   :o

I have used my vz82 as my CCW. I load it with Hornady Critical Defense JHP.

Are you pleased with your purchase?

I'd stick to using ball ammo.  I've yet to see a penetration test yielding adequate penetration for any kind of JHP round in 9 Makarov.  The International Wound Ballistics Association defined minimal adequate as 12.5 inches in bare calibrated 10% ballistic gel, and as 13.0 in such gel draped with four layers of heavy denim.  Because penetration über alles (i.e., penetration trumps expansion), you use inadequate ammo at your peril and the peril of your loved ones.

I agree with using ball ammo. With the proper magazines, the CZ-82 (or CZ-83) is a highly reliable weapon. It is as accurate as any other weapon of similar caliber/size. Penetration is, therefore, a big concern for 9x18 and 9x17 CCW's. FMJ will give you that needed penetration.

Why FMJ's?...I'm no expert, but this is what convinced me:

I would stick to ball ammo just to eliminate any chance of failure to feed.

Brand new to the Forum; really enjoy this string. I have a CZ 83 and am considering adding a CZ 82.
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether there's enough difference (in performance) to make the addition worthwhile?

the vz 82 has polygonal rifling which adds a "cool factor" the CZ83 just can't equal.  8)

And it shoots the cheap steel case ammo wonderfully.   O0
